With holiday festivities just around the corner, it’s time to start the Thanksgiving meals planning process once again. Thanksgiving is cherished for involving family and great food, and now is the time to begin the preparations.
Turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, and pumpkin pie are just a few traditional favorites. These are great Thanksgiving meal staples and a favorite for any of the winter holidays, but how does one add a Latin twist to the Thanksgiving standard? Here are a few recipes to add a little spice to the usual.
Side Dish: Cuban Fufu
Mashed potatoes are a favorite among the Thanksgiving lineup of side dishes. The unique texture of the dish makes a nice contrast to the rest of the meal. An interesting substitute for stuffing is Cuban fufu, a dish with a similar texture but a nice change for the palate. Made of mashed plantains and bacon, this savory dish is sure to be a hit.
Main Dish: Roast Pork
It is easy to get tired of turkey during the winter holidays with turkey on Thanksgiving and again on Christmas Day. This year, add a little flair with something different. Head to your local store and grab a boneless pork shoulder or butt roast to make this dish. Roast pork will be a nice alternative main dish.
Dessert: Besitos de Coco
The finale is often the favorite part of the meal, and everyone loves a delicious pumpkin pie. Why not end Thanksgiving meals with something a little lighter? Besitos de coco are a nice alternative to the traditional Thanksgiving dessert. End the evening of festivities with a light, flaky cookie made with dry coconut as the star ingredient. Everyone will be sure to appreciate this unique twist on a Thanksgiving dessert.
