When you are considering decor for a nursery or little one’s room, keep in mind that baby decorations should be in bright, primary colors. Color is especially stimulating to a child’s development. Fortunately, there are a wide variety of sources from which to choose really fun decorations.

These sources are conveniently close at hand for anyone with a computer these days. With a simple click of a mouse, you can find just about anything you’re looking for that might bring back memories of your own childhood. When you are getting started, a great resource for inspiration is your own mother. Let’s face it: Your baby couldn’t be in more experienced hands, and your mother will want to be a part of the decorating–whether you ask her to or not. Start with bedding.

There are beautiful quilts and matching crib or bassinet bumpers to choose from, with festive patterns that will stimulate your child’s development and be safe and comfortable. One thing to bear in mind when picking out bedding is to make sure it’s hypoallergenic. Safety where your newborn or toddler is concerned is obviously paramount, so be sure to read all tags and labels enclosed with or attached to any bedding you may purchase or receive as a baby shower gift.

Mobiles hung over a child’s bed make great baby decorations and play a big role in hand-eye coordination. Mobiles are fun and easy to make at home and can be personalized to reflect the theme of your nursery, your family, and your own personal tastes. If you’re not the crafty type, don’t worry–you’ll have plenty of mobiles to choose from.

If you are the artistic type or you have a friend or family member who is, consider painting a mural in your baby’s room. There’s no better way to personalize a room than with a colorful, one-of-a-kind mural. Another fun suggestion is painting clouds on the ceiling with glow-in-the-dark stars between them. Just be sure to do it well in advance of your baby’s arrival and air out the room thoroughly so that there are no fumes.

Any bedding or curtains that odors can cling to should not be present during or immediately after painting takes place. When considering further baby decorations, placement is everything. Make sure that all decorations that are not child-proof are well beyond your baby’s reach.

For instance, plug-in night-lights are a must and come in all sorts of wonderful shapes and sizes, but see to it that they’re not located within your child’s grasp. And remember: Stuffed animals and toys should be inspected for anything that might pose a danger to children.
