Jennifer Lopez may have been raised in the traditional Puerto Rican family with traditional Puerto Rican food, but the superstar admits she is now enjoying a much healthier lifestyle?thanks to eating vegan.

The diet change wasn’t easy, Lopez admits, but it’s also not the only thing she’s advocating as she launches her new healthy eating campaign. In addition to shifting the focus in a diet program to healthy, whole foods, Jennifer is also promoting her soon-to-be-on-the-shelves line of dietary supplements.

According to the report from Philly.com, the exact details of Lopez’s supplements are unknown, and the news of their production has come just weeks after the singer visited her hometown of the Bronx.

“I grew up on rice and beans and pork chops… (Change is) scary… But all it means is making grains and fruits and vegetables the main part of every meal we make… This (obesity level) has to change. We have to start doing good things for ourselves now,” she told the crowd gathered to hear her speak. “I enjoy eating [vegan]. I never did. And I didn’t know how good you can feel when you put healthy stuff in your body.”

Why should vegans consider supplements?

Vegans adhere to the dietary–and sometimes lifestyle–belief that they should use no products that contain ingredients obtained from animals. This means a vegan diet is entirely plant-based, and because of this, vegans must be careful to ensure they supplement their diet to get complete nutrition.

Areas of supplementation of particular concern are: vitamin B12, vitamin D, iodine, calcium, and iron. Vegans also should consider monitoring their protein intake as well as healthy fats that non-vegans often gain through the inclusion of meat in an everyday diet.

It has not been made clear, however, if Jennifer Lopez has developed a supplement line for vegans based on dietary needs, or if she has developed a complete line of supplements using vegan philosophy regarding no animal products.
