33-year-old Jessica Alba is one of the most in-demand actresses in Hollywood, and the part Mexican beauty says she credits her body to CrossFit and a low-carb diet.

“I have to enhance what I like about my body and my stomach is good,” Jessica told GQ. “My legs I’m not as excited about all the time, but I wouldn’t cover up my stomach. That’s what women do. Enhance what we’ve got.”

But how does she get that fabulous core? According to Alba it’s all about CrossFit, a program designed by Greg Glassman and Lauren Jenai which is promoted as philosophy as well as a fitness sport. CrossFit combines elements from activities like high-intensity interval training, Olympic weightlifting, plyometrics, powerlifting, gymnastics, girevoy sport, calisthenics, strongman, and yoga to create an intense, condensed exercise session.

“The aim of CrossFit is to forge a broad, general and inclusive fitness,” states the official website. “We have sought to build a program that will best prepare trainees for any physical contingency — not only for the unknown, but for the unknowable. After looking at all sport and physical tasks collectively, we asked what physical skills and adaptations would most universally lend themselves to performance advantage. Capacity culled from the intersection of all sports demands would quite logically lend itself well to all sport. In sum, our specialty is not specializing.”

CrossFit is tough in thousands of schools nationwide and each class can be different depending on the coach in charge. CrossFit is also customizable toward an individual’s goals, and an emphasis can be placed on any area participants desire. What’s more, CrossFit can often be done at an individual’s own pace since it is often timed rather than repetition-based.

Jessica Alba combines this form of activity with a low-carb diet to maintain her movie-ready physique. Her trainer, Jennifer Johnson, told People, “That’s Jessica’s strong point: She’s motivated nutritionally, and she eats a balanced diet of salads and proteins,” said Johnson. “If you’re eating right, that’s more than half the battle.”

Alba indicates, however, that diet and exercise are just a fraction of what it takes to feel good; she notes that a healthy sense of self is just as important.

“I know that my looks were my path into Hollywood, but I never really enjoyed the kind of attention that comes with the [sex-symbol] image,” she said. “I don’t have the body of a 14-year-old anymore,” she added. “I have cellulite and stretch marks, and I have a muffin top! I think the more we try not to have that unrealistic ideal, the happier we’ll be.”
