There is nothing worse than an spiteful ex-lover who also happens to be a journalist. Valerie Trierweiler, the former partner of François Hollande, President of the French Republic, has written the explosive memoirs of her years of romance with the head of the French state.
Titled “Merci pour ce moment” (Thank you for this time), the book will set the autumn publishing season on fire in France and throughout Europe. This includes Germany, the place she secretly wrote and printed the book from.
“The 320 pages are a cry for love and a slow descent into hell; an immersion into the intimacy of the couple,” says the magazine Paris-Match that just published excerpts from the book in this week’s edition and carries Valérie on the cover.

Valérie presents herself as a desperate woman after it is publicly confirmed that Francois has a mistress, actress Julie Gayet. Rumors were insistent but doubtful until “Closer” magazine published photos of the President leaving an apartment early in the morning where he had breakfast with Gayet, after obviously spending the night.

Hollande’s ex has no qualms about describing his own reaction to this soap opera development as she was the First Lady of France and was at the Elysee Palace: “I ran to the bathroom looking for my sleeping pills while Francois chased me and tried to rip the bag with his hand. I ran into the bedroom where the bag with pills ripped and fell on the floor and on the bed. I gather what I could and I swallowed them. I want to sleep,.. want to go away, not having to face hours of deceit. I loose consciousness. “
Besides these bedroom intimacies, perhaps the most damaging revelations are on the political personality of the Socialist president: “He says he loves the poor and despised the rich but it is not true: he calls the poor ” toothless .”
Valerie describes her former lover as “cold and cynical” and deceitful because “he shows a friendly face in public that does not correspond with his dark side,” which she claims to have suffered through.

She admits to being “jealous” with the men she loves, a conclusion to which we had come ourselves after reading excerpts from her vengeful memories. To justify her jealousy, she cites Michelle Obama and her alleged jealousy tantrum when her husband, Barack Obama took a smiling selfie with the beautiful blonde Danish Prime Minister during a Mandela homage. “I’m not the only jealous wife” Valerie says in his book.
The first companion of Hollande and mother of his four children, Segolene Royal, also has her share of hate. Valerie jealousy imposed Hollande not to support his ex in her political career. Never the less, Hollande supported Segolene and that infuriated Valerie who cried out loud, including posting her grieves in twitter. That scandal almost dragged the socialist party to a debacle. “I pressed the detonator of the bomb, but the perpetrators were François and Segolène, always playing the ambiguous game,” Trierweiler exculpate herself.

Valerie vividly remember a whole string of “humiliations” of Hollande and the feeling that he never never considered her the “first lady” with all the honors. The truth is that Hollande never married her nor the mother of his four children Segolene Royal with whom he lived nearly 30 years, before abandoning her for Valerie. If he follow tradition, actress Julie Gayet has a doubtful future as a wife, although Valerie warns her substitute in Hollande’s bed: “He keep sending messages, flowers and keeps inviting me to dinner. “
It is fun to point out the cultural differences between the US and France. Here, in a similar situation, we will be already talking about impeachment. In France it just makes lively conversations about l’ amour over cafe au lait.
And do not be fooled by Valerie. She might come as imbalance, jealous and hysterical in her own words but she had a good head over her shoulders. Not only she is getting a sweet revenge against the man who wronged her but also a ton of money because for sure these memoirs will be a best seller.

Nobody like the French to stage a soap opera full of jilted love, adultery, revenge and lies.
¡Oh la la, l´amour!
