Adriano Espaillat (Distrito 31, Manhattan)

Gustavo Rivera (Distrito 33, Bronx)

John Liu (Distrito 11, Queens).

Oliver Koppell (Distrito 34. Bronx, Westchester)

Para la Asamblea Estatal

Guillermo Linares (Distrito 72, Manhattan)

George A. Álvarez (Distrito 79, Bronx)

Erik Martin Dilan (Distrito 54, Brooklyn)

Felix Ortiz (Distrito 51, Brooklyn)

El Diario does not support any candidates for governor in the primary. Andrew Cuomo, who came to Albany four years ago propelled by his anticorruption campaign, has not met those expectations. In addition, he did not sufficiently support some initiatives that are significant to our community, like the DREAM Act.

His challenger in the Democratic primary, Zephyr Teachout, promises to revive the Moreland Commission and implement other anticorruption measures. She also supports the New York is Home Act, a bill that would give the state legal authority to legalize its undocumented residents. However, she has little executive experience, which makes her a weak candidate for a position with this level of responsibility.

As far as primary candidates for lieutenant governor, Cuomo’s pick, Kathy Hochul, has been questioned for her past opinions about immigrants and her previous opposition to issuing driver’s licenses to the undocumented. Her recent shifts of opinion on these issues do not seem convincing to us.

Hochul’s Democratic challenger, Tim Wu, wants to expand the debate over immigrants’ rights in Albany. We believe that he should be the running mate for Cuomo, who is sure to win his primary.

As far as the remaining elected positions, El Diario supports the following candidates, who we consider the best ones to drive a progressive agenda and effectively represent the rights of the Latino community:

For the State Senate

Adriano Espaillat (District 31, Manhattan)

Gustavo Rivera (District 33, Bronx)

John Liu (District 11, Queens)

Oliver Koppell (District 34, Bronx/Westchester)

For the State Assembly

Guillermo Linares (District 72, Manhattan)

George A. Álvarez (District 79, Bronx)

Erik Martin Dilan (District 54, Brooklyn)

Felix Ortiz (District 51, Brooklyn)
