Texas officer fired for using Taser on 76-year-old man
A Victoria, Texas police officer who used a Taser on a Latino man was fired after an investigation showing he violated procedures. A video shows Nathanial Robinson, 23, pulling over Victoria resident Pete Vasquez for a suspected traffic violation and violently cuffing him. The video also shows how Robinson tackles the 76-year-old man to the ground and shoots him with a taser gun twice. Vasquez was taken to a nearby hospital and later released. He was not cited for a violation. “I’m really afraid to get out on the street now because I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Mr Vasquez said at a Tuesday press conference, reports Click2Houston. Police Chief Jeff Craig said Robinson violated policy, including conduct and performance, use of force and arrest without a warrant. “This is a very unfortunate incident for everyone involved. The Victoria Police Department places a high value in public trust. The men and women of the Victoria Police Department work hard each and every day to provide professional service with pride and respect to the community,” Victoria Police Chief Jeff Craig said. “It’s unfortunate but what it comes down to is that my dad is not the same as he was before this happened. We’re confused as to why this happened. We’re saddened. We’ve been brought together by a senseless tragedy that didn’t have to happen.” said the son of the victim, Albert Vasquez, to Click2Houston.
