Jose Luis Abarca is charged with kidnapping of 43 missing students

  Jose Luis Abarca, the former mayor of the city of Iguala, who has long been suspected of being involved in the disappearance of 43 college students in southwestern Mexico, has finally been charged by officials with the crime. Both Abarca and his wife were arrested late last year in connection to the case in Southwestern Mexico, where 43 students from a teachers college went missing since October. Maria de los Angeles Pineda, the former first lady of Iguala had already been charged earlier this month in connection to the case. News agency Reuters reported that Zeron spoke to the media after meeting with the families of the missing students to tell them the latest advancements in the case. After fleeing their hometown in 2014, federal police arrested Abarca and Pineda while sleeping in a Mexico City apartment this November. Authorities believe the students were murdered and burned before being buried, but despite the finding of multiple mass graves in the area of Southwestern Mexico, only one body has been positively identified as that of one of the students.
