Warner signs Grammy-nominated DJ Kaskade
Warner Brothers has made a bold move by selecting Grammy-nominated DJ Kaskade as their EDM claim. Kaskade, along with producers deadmau5 and Wolfgang Gartner, were most popular in late 2008-early 2009 when the revival of American progressive house swept the nation. This is the first time in Kaskades career that he has signed up with a major label. SEE ALSO: The GRAMMYs first wave of performers is announced After releasing eight albums on independents like Om Records (People Under the Stairs, Bassnectar) and Ultra Records, the 43-year-old DJ, whose real name is Ryan Raddon, inked a two-album deal with the company in what seems an admission that the surest path to stardom is major-label muscle. When asked why he waited so long to sign up with a major label, Kaskade said: “I see what’s happening to my peers who are signing to majors and it was important for me to avoid some of that,” according to billboard. EDM is ready for prime time, which means many artists succumb to the pressures of creating their content for a more mainstream audience rather than simply producing what they want without outside influence. Warner acknowledges that EDM is a competitive and increasingly crowded ring so signing Kasakde for them is an ambitious step. CEO Cameron Strang said the signing was a perfect fit and will only add to the ever-expanding repertoire that includes Prodigy, an incredibly talented electronic music group. The timing couldnt be more perfect. Kaskade is about to launch an exclusive residency with Wynn Las Vegas that includes more than 30 shows at Encore Beach Club and the newly redesigned XS Nightclub through January 2017. Kasakde has managed to remain a strong and prominent influence in the EDM world for so many years because he does not give into the EDM trends. Until recently, big builds and drops, dubstep, super heavy stuff were the go-to for EDM but Kasakde has managed to keep his sound integrity throughout the years. Although he has never had a radio hit, Kaskade does have three Grammy nominations, along with sellout tours and headlining gigs at major music festivals. An announcement last week revealed Kaskade will play Coachella for the fourth time this April. The post Warner signs Grammy-nominated DJ Kaskade appeared first on Voxxi.
