Latino stars speak up against deportation at Premio Lo Nuestro

For some artists, awards show tend to be the perfect place to express their thoughts on a social problem. Remember when artists touched upon gay marriage at the GRAMMYs last year? Or when the undocumented children were the main focus at Premios Juventud? Or perhaps when the riots in Venezuela was the center of Premio Lo Nuestro last year? This year, the stars have spoken up against deportation.

A federal judge in Texas granted a preliminary injunction this week to halt President Obamas executive actions on immigration.
The ruling by U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen temporarily blocks the implementation of Obamas executive actions announced in November, which would protect up to 5 million undocumented immigrants from deportation.
At the 27th annual Premio Lo Nuestro awards show, in the midst of big wins and great performances, stars took the opportunity to say “no to deportation.”
During the music event, Colombian superstar Juanes delivered a simple yet powerful message on Twitter, using the hashtag #Not1More.

But he wasn’t the only celebrity who showed concern on the topic. Leslie Grace, 3Ball MTY and Fernando Corona all had a thing or two to say, according to EFE.
Bachata songstress Leslie Grace expressed that everyone has the right to better their life. She noted that her parents, like many other immigrants, have struggled a lot to offer a better future to their kids.
The Mexican DJs, 3Ball MTY also showed their support and emphasized on the importance of the Latino community in the U.S.

Whereas Mexican singer Fernando Corona talked about his own experience as an undocumented immigrant in the U.S. and also asked for deportations to stop.
The stars who attended the 2015 Premio Lo Nuestro can all agree that deportation puts an end to the “American Dream” and at times, separates a family –it needs to stop.
