The Internet is a wondrous place but it is also dangerous for those with children. Just one misspelled word or misplaced letter can send a child to a very inappropriate website, video or picture.

YouTube is one such website that offers built-in safety features for parents and children. However, the filter works a little too well.
It will block anything with a mild curse word or scantily-clothed model, which means essentially all music videos are blocked. It doesnt even have to be “Fifty Shades of Grey” level to be deemed inappropriate enough.

Certain comedy clips, movie trailers, foreign commercials, and even health-related videos are also banned.
It is possible to turn the parental controls off when one is using the computer for their own purposes but this can become bothersome.
Fortunately, theres good news for every parent out there thanks to Google, which announced Tuesday the launch of a new app called YouTube Kids, giving kids a safe place to surf and stream.
The app, available in both Android and iOS formats, will contain plenty of kid-friendly programming such as “Sesame Street,” “TuTiTuTV,” “Reading Rainbow,” “Thomas The Tank Engine,” “Yo Gabba Gabba,” National Geographic Kids, Jim Henson TV and Dreamworks TV.

It will have an exclusive original series called “uTech” starring LeVar Burton of “Reading Rainbow” fame, and it will focus on next-generation technologies, according to the Mother Nature Network.
In order to keep profanity out, the commenting feature has been disabled. It will also include a programmable timer so parents can control how much time their kids spend watching TV.

YouTube Kids is a great way for parents and kids to watch what they want without worrying that something else might pop up on the screen.
