The controversial Selena Quintanilla book that made headlines in the late ’90s will soon hit the shelves with a new edition.

“Selena’s Secret: The Revealing Story Behind Her Tragic Death,” released by Spanish TV anchorwoman Maria Celeste Arraras, will honor two decades since Quintanilla’s passing.

In its new edition, the bestseller will include a new prologue and epilogue from the author and Emmy-winning journalist Arraras. It will also count with updated information on its protagonists and revealed declarations from the mysterious doctor with whom Selena allegedly had a sentimental relationship with.

“Selena’s Secret” tells the intimate and detailed story about Selena Quintanilla’s tragic passing on March 31, 1995 and deals mostly with Arraras’ coverage of the murder and the trial of Yolanda Saldivar.

She also unravels many mysteries, such as:

  • Why was there a luggage with Selena’s clothes in the crime scene?
  • What was the real significance of the ring that Selena dropped in the emergency room?
  • Who was the doctor from Monterrey that was her so-called confidant and partner?

According to the latest version of the book, the investigation that Maria revealed in the first publication has been confirmed.

However, “Selena’s Secret” –published in both Spanish and English– caused many controversies when it first launched 18 years ago, upsetting many of Selena’s fans and family members.

In an interview with NY Daily News back in 1997, Abraham Quintanilla, father of the late songstress, said the book “not only demeans Selena and sympathizes with Saldivar, but portrays him as a money-hungry control freak who was driving his disillusioned daughter away from the music business.”

The book hit stores in 1997 two weeks before the premiere of “Selena,” the Hollywood biopic starring Jennifer Lopez.

“Why is she so determined to slander my daughter’s image? What is her motivation for taking the side of a criminal, a murderer? I call it dirty money,” said an angry Mr. Quintanilla.

The new edition of “Selena’s Secret: The Revealing Story Behind Her Tragic Death” is expected to be released in 2015. Will you get your hands on it?

Remember the spinning stage? Band-aid on her finger? Frizzy hair? Red lipstick on the mic? Killer dance moves? And the ravishing sparkly, purple jumpsuit?

I certainly do, and no book will ever remove the clean-image she had and the inspirational role model she will forever be.
