It’s a churro; it’s a dog; it’s perfection: the churro dog

If baseball is America’s favorite pastime, hotdogs are certainly the country’s favorite pastime treat, but with the growing Latino influence in the United States, the introduction of that sugary doughy fried treat — known as churros — is making waves in stadiums and street corners.

Since hotdogs were introduced to baseball stadiums back in the late 19th century, Americans have formed an unwavering attachment to this staple ballpark snack—Americans now consume over 20 billion hotdogs per year!

There is no denying the fact that hotdogs are staple ballpark fare, but now the Arizona Diamondbacks have decided to put a new twist on this fan-favorite food: the D-Backs are introducing the Churro Dog. Grab your cholesterol pills, your bib and get ready for a good time.

That’s right—the D-Backs have twisted this savory snack into a decadent desert filled with frozen yogurt, chocolate and caramel sauce, a churro, and a donut bun. The treat clocks in at over 1,000 calories, but the enormous calorie count shouldn’t be too much of a problem—sticking to a diet isn’t typically on the minds of most fans at baseball games, after all.

The churro dog makes its debut

Arizona’s Chase Field will debut the Churro Dog this season, and baseball lovers and foodies alike have already taken to Twitter to swoon over the mouthwatering treat.

The Churro Dog quickly became a trending topic on Twitter, which isn’t surprising when you read ESPN’s Darren Rovell’s description of the dessert:

“A warm cinnamon churro sitting inside a Long John chocolate-glazed donut, which is then topped with frozen yogurt, caramel and chocolate sauces.”

So if you want to swap the traditional ballpark hotdog for one that’s a bit more decadent and a whole lot sweeter, be prepared to shell out $8.50 for the treat. This price is significantly lower than the D-bat Dog, the $25 mega corn dog that the Diamondbacks introduced last season.

With menu items like the D-bat Dog and the Churro Dog at Chase Field, it’s no wonder why the Diamonds hold the title for most ridiculous stadium food in MLB.
