Earlier this year, Nancy Kanter, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Disney Junior Worldwide, made the official announcement that Disney is in the works of their first-ever Latina princess, Elena of Avalor.

“What excites us most is the chance to use distinctive animation and visual design to tell wonderful stories influenced by culture and traditions that are familiar to the worldwide population of Hispanic and Latino families and reflect the interests and aspirations of all children as told through a classic fairy tale,” Kanter said in a statement.

Elena is a 16-year-old girl who is described as bold, caring, funny and a clever ascendant to the throne in the fairytale kingdom of Avalor. She will be voiced by Latina actress Aimee Carrero.

Though you already know everything there is to know about Elena, you may or may not be familiar with Aimee. Let us introduce you to this starlet.

Carrero is a 26-year-old actress who was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic but was raised in Miami, Fla. Her career embarked in 2007 starring in many short films; however, she’s got a longer trajectory with television.

She’s becoming a household name because of her current role as Sofia Rodriguez on the ABC Family sitcom “Young & Hungry.” But prior to the show, Carrero was best known for portraying Angie on the Cartoon Network live-action series “Level Up.”

We’d have to admit though, that our favorite role from Aimee is her on-point performance in the 2012 YouTube hit “Sh*t Miami Girls Say…and guys.” Yea, remember when that was trending and going viral?
