NUEVA YORK – Su pasión era la fotografía y, hasta el último día de su vida, lo dejó demostrado.

Connor Cummings (20) murió el pasado 30 de diciembre, tras caer de un andamio  del Four Seasons Hotel, en Manhattan, mientras intentaba tomar imágenes panorámicas de la ciudad.

“El murió haciendo lo que amaba. Se supone que me dé algo de consuelo, alguien me dijo; pero aún no”, dijo al Daily News, Linda Cummings, madre del chico.

La mujer, quien destacó que su hijo veía belleza en todos lados y le gustaba ayudar a otros, agregó que Connor había recibido la cámara Canon Mark III como regalo de Navidad.

Cuatro días después de la tragedia, el Departamento de la Policía de la ciudad (NYPD) le entregó a la familia –que reside en Rockaway, Nueva Jersey– el equipo. Para sorpresa de los parientes, el aparato guardaba impresionantes imágenes de los rascacielos en Manhattan.

Las fotos, obtenidas por el Daily News  y con las que se busca rendir tributo al muchacho, muestran las últimas capturas que lo precipitaron a su muerte.

Su madre relató al rotativo que Connor estaba emocionado ya que empezaría un trabajo nuevo el próximo semestre tomando fotos para University of Massachusetts Amherst, donde estudiaba Psicología.

El día de la tragedia, el muchacho se encontraba con su amigo Dimitri Olivares (18). Primero, tomaron una serie de fotos  en un edificio no identificado par de bloques al Sur de Times Square.

A eso de las 10 p.m. se movieron al Four Seasons Hotel en la calle 57 Este, donde se movieron hasta la azotea. Una vez en el exterior, subieron una escalera de 25 pies hasta llegar a un andamio de metal que rodeaba equipos de refrigeración.

Desafortunadamente, el joven no se percató de un hoyo en la plataforma y se precipitó por el mismo.

Pese a la arriesgada acción del muchacho, su madre descartó que éste fuera un “temerario” que no tomaba precauciones.
