1,000+ Students, Parents, Teachers, Advocates to Join Gov. Mike Pence, National Journalist Campbell Brown for Quality Education Celebration at Statehouse

Event celebrates school choice in Indiana, commemorates National
School Choice Week 2016

INDIANAPOLIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–More than 1,000 students, parents, teachers, and community leaders will
gather at the Statehouse on Monday, January 25, to celebrate school
choice and quality education options in Indiana.

The event, hosted by the Institute for Quality Education (IQE), will
begin at 10 a.m. inside the Statehouse north atrium and feature keynote
speeches at noon. Governor Mike Pence and Campbell Brown, former CNN
anchor and co-founder of The
Seventy Four
, will be featured at the event.

“Every parent in Indiana wants their child to have the opportunity to
succeed, and that begins with ensuring a high-quality education,” said
Brown. “School choice provides families with the option to decide what
is best for their child’s future, and that is a right everyone deserves.
It is an honor to join together with the students, parents, teachers,
and advocates in Indiana who fight every day to make school choice their
defining cause.”

Student and parent speakers representing traditional public schools,
public charter schools, private schools, homeschooling organizations,
and virtual schools will also participate.

The goal of the event is to celebrate educational opportunity in
Indiana, and to call on legislators to strengthen the education options
available to Indiana families.

The event is timed to coincide with National School Choice Week (January
24-30, 2016), which will be America’s largest-ever celebration of
opportunity in education, with more than 16,000 events being held across
the country.

“Indiana is on the cutting edge of educational choice for families, and
there’s no better time to celebrate that and raise awareness among
parents than during National School Choice Week,” said Erin Sweitzer,
spokeswoman for IQE. “Hoosier parents have so many quality options for
their kids, whether it’s a traditional public school, a public charter
school, a private school, or homeschooling, and this event will bring
students, teachers, parents, and advocates together to celebrate those
options.”

The Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice is also involved in
hosting this event.

Held every January, National School Choice Week is an independent public
awareness effort designed to shine a positive spotlight on effective
education options for every child. Through thousands of independently
planned events across the country, National School Choice Week raises
public awareness of all types of educational choices available to
children. These options include traditional public schools, public
charter schools, public magnet schools, online learning, private
schools, and homeschooling.

IQE is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting quality education
policies in Indiana. IQE informs legislators of issues facing schools in
their community and provides accurate information so Hoosier children
have a voice at the Statehouse. While communicating facts about
education issues in communities around the state, IQE engages and joins
with advocates who want to put kids first and push for education
policies that make quality education a reality for all Hoosier students.
