ERLANGER, Ky.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#DHLExpress–DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, Special Olympics and the
Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky Airport (CVG) Airport teamed up again for
the 4th annual DHL Plane Pull event, raising $68,000 for Special
Olympics Kentucky and its programs for local athletes. On Saturday,
September 17, at the DHL Americas Hub, more than 22 local businesses and
civic groups competed in the ultimate tug of war, pulling one of the DHL
Boeing 757s – weighing over 140,000 pounds – across the tarmac. The team
that pulled the aircraft 12 feet in the shortest time won.

The three teams taking home the top honors were:

  • Men’s team winner — Multi-Color Corporation at 5.02 seconds from
    Batavia, OH
  • Women’s team winner – Pretty Tough From DHL at 5.52 seconds from
    Cincinnati, OH
  • Co-ed team winner – Fear the Walking Plane (a DHL team) at 6.3 seconds
    from Cincinnati, OH

“We are excited to announce that this year’s DHL Plane Pull exceeded our
fundraising goal and that $68,000 will go to Special Olympics and their
wonderful athletes,” said Joanie Arias, Vice President, DHL Express CVG
Americas Hub. “On Saturday, we had some great teams flex their muscles
for our local athletes, and you could feel the pride and excitement to
raise money for such an important cause.”

Each team had to raise a minimum of $1,000 to participate and all
proceeds help provide sports programs, health services, early childhood
programs and community building programs serving 8, 000 children and
adults in Kentucky with intellectual disabilities.

Some of the programs include Young Athletes Program and the Healthy
Athletes screening initiatives.

The DHL plane pull took place on the ramp of the DHL Express Hub. The
CVG hub, one of three global hubs, sits at the heart of the DHL Americas
network with 50 arriving and departing flights daily connecting
customers from over 220 countries and territories worldwide.

The DHL Plane Pull is part of the Deutsche Post DHL Global Volunteer Day
activities which encourages employees to support their local communities
during the month of September and throughout the year.

“We are very excited to bring the Plane Pull back to DHL this year. DHL
is an incredible partner, and the DHL Plane Pull gets better and better
each year thanks to their involvement,” said Taylor Ballinger, special
events director at Special Olympics Kentucky. “This year, we had close
to 1,000 participants, spectators, and volunteers at the event. We were
thrilled to have so many people out at the DHL Hub to support the work
of Special Olympics Kentucky. It was a great event to help our
community.”
