Amerigroup Funds Scholarships to Give Louisiana Youth a Chance to Experience Summer Camp

Amerigroup’s $12,000 grant makes 100 scholarships available to
children and teens to attend ExxonMobil YMCA’s summer camp in Baton
Rouge.

BATON ROUGE, La.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#AmerigroupGiving–Amerigroup Louisiana has donated $12,000 to fund 100 scholarships for
children ages 4 – 16 to attend ExxonMobil YMCA’s Summer Camp Program in
Baton Rouge, La. The camp program offers children the opportunity to
attend health and nutrition classes, while engaging in fun, safe and
age-appropriate physical activities that promote healthy lifestyles.
Campers also have the opportunity to learn about nature, gain
independence and develop essential social skills.

“Amerigroup has sponsored hundreds of scholarships for ExxonMobil YMCA’s
summer camp over the past few years to help families who do not have the
means to send their children to summer camp,” said Sonya Nelson,
Amerigroup Louisiana president. “We recognize the benefits camp
activities can have on health and overall wellbeing, and we are proud of
our role in helping to shape lifestyles and improve future health
outcomes.”

This is Amerigroup’s fifth consecutive year servings as a sponsor of
scholarships for ExxonMobil YMCA’s Summer Camp Program. The average cost
for a child to attend YMCA’s summer camp for a week is $110 – $115.
Financial assistance such as Amerigroup’s funding ensures children have
the opportunity to engage in enriching, safe experiences with caring
staff and volunteers who model positive values that help build character.
