Judge Approves Landmark Settlement Benefitting Hundreds of Female

Lucy H. Koh, United States District Judge for the Northern District of
California, has granted final approval in the firm’s equal pay lawsuit
against Farmers Insurance. This settlement comes after more than one
year of intense litigation on behalf of female Farmers Insurance
attorneys who were paid less than their male counterparts, even though
they were performing the same work.

truth is that there is still a very real pay gap across multiple

The multi-million dollar settlement will compensate hundreds of women
who worked in Farmers’ Claims Litigation department and force Farmers to
make numerous changes to their business practices that will benefit
female employees. Most importantly, Farmers will be forced to have
increased transparency in their compensation structure.

According to the National Women’s Law Center, American women who work
full time are paid only 79 cents for every dollar paid to men. Yet,
women are the primary or solo breadwinners in 40 percent of households
with children under eighteen.
