Arianna Huffington Writes and Performs Goodnight Smartphone for Audible

The Classic Tale Reborn for the Modern Age is Now Available Free on
Audible.com!

NEWARK, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Audible Studios, a production arm of Audible.com, today announced the
release of Goodnight Smartphone, a soothing and playful
adaptation of childhood classics including Margaret Wise Brown’s beloved
children’s story Goodnight Moon for the digital age, written and
performed exclusively for Audible by author, columnist, and Thrive
Global founder and CEO Arianna Huffington. This production is now
available for free download at audible.com/goodnight.

The audiobook includes an original score and a new introduction, also
written and performed by Huffington, about her own nightly sleep
regimen, why this story is so important to her, and how this recording
can help people achieve the good night’s sleep they need to become their
best selves during the day.

“When I visited Audible’s headquarters in Newark, New Jersey several
months ago to speak to employees about the benefits of sleep, I joked
that there should be versions of wonderful books like Goodnight Moon
for grownups,” said Huffington, whose author credits include Thrive and
The Sleep Revolution. “The lovely team at Audible suggested that
I write and narrate my vision, and Goodnight Smartphone was born.
I’m delighted to share my reimagining of one of my favorite books to
address the particular challenges of today’s adults, where the hardest
thing to say goodnight to is not the moon, but our cell phones, our
e-mail, and our social media.”

“We are thrilled to have inspired Arianna Huffington to express her
passion for turning sleep into productivity in the audio format,” said
Audible EVP and Publisher Beth Anderson. “Listeners will love hearing
her recognizable voice remind them to put their electronics away for the
night, hopefully on behalf of a meaningful slumber.”

In addition to Arianna Huffington, among the acclaimed performers who
have narrated works of literature for Audible are Sean Penn, Nick
Offerman, Zachary Quinto, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Lily Collins, Emma
Thompson, James Franco, and Jesse Eisenberg. In 2013, Audible Studios
won its first Grammy Award, for its production of Janis Ian’s memoir Society’s
Child
, and also won the Audie Award for Audiobook of the Year, for
Colin Firth’s performance of Graham Greene’s The End of the Affair.

Audible, the world’s largest seller and producer of downloadable
audiobooks and other spoken-word content, invented and commercialized
the first digital audio player in 1997, and has since been at the
forefront of the explosively growing audiobook download segment. Audible
members downloaded an average of more than 17 books over the course of
the year. More than half of new Audible members are first-time audiobook
buyers.
