Bob Hope USO Calls for Volunteers at Flagship LAX Airport Center

Increased Demand for USO Services at Los Angeles International
Airport Provides Opportunities for Volunteers to Support the Troops and
Their Families

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Bob Hope USO, an independent non-profit that serves troops and military
families across Central and Southern California, is looking for
volunteers for its flagship Airport Center at Los Angeles International
Airport (LAX) in response to increased demands on the center’s 24/7
operational capacity.

Nearly 100,000 troops and military family members will use the Center
this year—a number expected to continue growing. Military personnel and
their families count upon the centrally-located LAX center to serve as a
free and comfortable place to rest and eat while traveling. To meet the
increase in demand, Bob Hope USO is calling on locals to help volunteer.

“Of more than 160 USO centers around the world, Bob Hope USO’s LAX
facility is one of six that operates twenty-four hours a day,” said Bob
Hope USO executive director Bob Kurkjian. “With this ever increasing
influx of troops, we are calling for volunteers so we can continue to
provide around-the-clock hospitality services to our nation’s military
personnel and their families. We see so many troops and their families
having to weather the storm of the rigorous travel their duties demand.
They risk so much in service of our country, the least we can do is give
service men and women a warm and comfortable place where they can put up
their feet and feel at home.”

The current center features a complimentary snack bar, a big screen
television with a collection of Hollywood hits and an outdoor patio. The
center also caters to military families and houses a Disney-inspired
family room with games. LAX is not always a final destination, and so
the center features a secure luggage storage room, restroom and shower
facilities, and a nap room with leather recliners where exhausted troops
can rest undisturbed for a few hours.

Bob Hope USO also operates airport centers at Ontario International
Airport, John Wayne Airport in Orange County and Palm Springs
International Airport.

“Volunteering to serve our armed forces is a powerful way to give back,”
said Jill Villalpando, Manager of LAX USO Airport Center. “Just a few
hours a week can make a tremendous impact on the lives of our active
service military personnel.”
