Caldera Medical Launches Women’s Health Initiative

Company announces humanitarian initiative toward alleviating one
million women suffering from Incontinence and Prolapse by 2025

AGOURA HILLS, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Caldera Medical, a medical device company that develops differentiated
surgical implants for the treatment of Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI)
and Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP), has launched Women’s Health Initiative,
to treat women suffering from SUI and POP. Women’s Health Initiative
partners with leading surgeons to advance education and provide
humanitarian aid while delivering care to impoverished women suffering
from SUI and POP regardless of their ability to pay. The initiative
specifically involves dispatching teams of surgeons to underprivileged
areas to treat patients and provide proper training to local physicians.

Urinary Incontinence, also known as the “silent epidemic,” is a
common condition that affects millions of women during adult life.
Recent statistics show that 348 million people worldwide experienced
some type of incontinence in 2008, and this number is projected to
increase to 423 million by 2018. In 2008 a total of 250 million women in
Asia, South America and Africa were affected by incontinence and this
number is expected to increase to approximately 303 million by 2018. SUI
has a severe impact on quality of life, affecting psychological health,
social function, body image and overall well-being. Although SUI is a
common problem among women and can seriously affect their quality of
life, most women do not seek or have access to medical help.

It is estimated that Pelvic Organ Prolapse affects 34
million women worldwide, yet so many of these women are often too
embarrassed to discuss this problem with their own doctor. As a result,
many of these women suffer from this untreated condition for decades.
Oftentimes women may suffer from urinary incontinence and pelvic organ
prolapse concurrently and still not seek help.

“Millions of women in poverty-stricken countries are incapacitated by
incontinence and/or prolapse and are not being treated,” stated Caldera
Medical’s CEO Bryon L. Merade, adding, “We are committed in heart and
mind to alleviate one million women suffering from Incontinence and
Prolapse by 2025!”
