UMPQUA BANK LAUNCHES ‘MADE TO GROW’ INITIATIVE TO KICKSTART
CONVERSATION ABOUT MONEY

Multi-media campaign includes original short film, podcast series
and art installation

Umpqua Bank, a subsidiary of Umpqua Holdings Corporation (UMPQ), is
unveiling an initiative to counter the increasing impact financial
stress has on Americans’ health. The campaign, which includes an
original short film, interactive exhibit and podcast series, is designed
to inspire conversations about personal financial growth.

According to the American
Psychological Association
, 64 percent of Americans experience
significant stress around money. For millennials, that number increases
to 75 percent, and it continues to rise for parents, with 77 percent
listing money as a major source of stress. Furthermore, stress-related
symptoms are the most common reason people go to the doctor.

“The single biggest cause of stress in the U.S. is money and as a
community bank, we believe we have an obligation to invest in the health
of the communities we serve,” said Ray Davis, president and CEO of
Umpqua Bank. “Online and in our stores, our goal is to create
environments that encourage people to talk about and manage their
finances. We’ve created Made to Grow to inspire and encourage
conversations about money, while demystifying the reasons people are
often afraid to start them.”

Umpqua’s Made to Grow Initiative

Using a mix of original creative content across digital and physical
channels, Umpqua’s Made to Grow initiative is designed to capture
people’s imaginations through a compelling mix of film, podcast and
interactive exhibition, including:

Original Short Film: The Seed + The Moon
The
centerpiece of the campaign is an original short film, “The Seed + The
Moon,” which explores the power of human potential and growth, and
inspires viewers to imagine their own potential. Umpqua tapped director
Kibwe Tavares and musician Jónsi of Sigur Rós to create a
thought-provoking visual journey of growth, adversity and
transformation. Created with CAA, the film premieres online today at www.madetogrow.com,
and in theaters across the West Coast.

Podcast Series: Open Account with SuChin Pak
Complementing
the film is Umpqua’s first podcast, “Open Account with Suchin Pak,”
which deepens the exploration of money, growth and opportunity. Known
for her work as a news correspondent on MTV, Pak hosts candid
conversations with guests like “Saturday Night Live” writer Paula Pell,
NBA center Myers Leonard, and others who talk openly about struggles
they overcame and decisions they made in order to grow personally and
financially. Madetogrow.com and social media channels will continue the
conversation with interactive content into next year.
