Gomez Trial Attorneys and Baron & Budd Represent Families Regarding TCE Contamination of Drinking Water Wells

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Gomez Trial Attorneys and the national law firm of Baron & Budd, P.C.
represent several families in San Luis Obispo who have discovered TCE
contamination in their drinking water wells. TCE is a toxic chemical
commonly used as a solvent by industries such as manufacturing and
mechanics. TCE, or Trichloroethylene, is toxic to humans and animals if
exposed through oral ingestion, vapor inhalation, or dermal contact. TCE
levels in this area are 3 to 12 times higher than safe drinking water
standards.

The potentially affected areas include the neighborhoods of Buckley
Road, Thread Lane, east of Davenport Creek Road, and Evans Road, all
southwest of the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport. TCE was
recently discovered in one well in October 2015, and since then Gomez
Trial Attorneys and Baron & Budd have discovered additional wells
contaminated with TCE. San Luis Obispo County has also collected well
samples, half of which are contaminated with TCE.

While the source of the TCE contamination is currently unknown, the
California Regional Water Quality Control Board has identified the San
Luis Obispo County Regional Airport as a potential source, including
airline and airplane operations over several decades.

“TCE contamination is a serious public health concern and the first
order of business is to ensure everyone is aware of the contamination
and taking steps to protect their families,” said attorney John Fiske of
Gomez Trial Attorneys. “Currently, we’re helping affected families
explore immediate mitigation efforts such as carbon filters to protect
the people living there,” added Mr. Fiske.

The regulatory drinking water standard is 5 micrograms per liter, and
some TCE levels found in this area are up to 12 times that amount.

Environmental attorney Scott Summy of Baron & Budd also represents the
affected families. “We have already begun a full investigation into who
caused this contamination. These families should be able to drink their
own water without fear of contamination. Whoever caused this
contamination should clean it up,” said attorney Summy.

Gomez Trial Attorneys is based in California and is committed to
