IVF-Worldwide.com Launches Virtual Academy of Egg Health

—Online scientific resource for reproductive health professionals
examines role of egg health in fertility —

HONG KONG & SALT LAKE CITY–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today, at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) 2016
Scientific Congress & Expo, IVF-Worldwide,
the largest and most comprehensive in-vitro fertilization (IVF)-focused
website for doctors, embryologists, nurses and social workers, and an
educational resource for patients, announced the launch of the Virtual
Academy of Egg Health
(VAoEH). The educational resource will focus
on providing reproductive health professionals with
scientifically-driven content—including peer-reviewed articles, videos
and discussion forums—related to egg health and its impact on female
fertility. Content for VAoEH is supported by an unrestricted grant from
OvaScience, a global fertility company focused on the discovery,
development and commercialization of new treatment options, and is now
live at: http://www.ivf-worldwide.com/vaoeh.

“We’re just beginning to scratch the surface in understanding the role
of egg health in a woman’s fertility journey and its effect on the
success of IVF, making this the perfect time to spotlight this important
topic,” said Professor Zeev Shoham, co-founder of IVF-Worldwide and head
of the Fertility and IVF Unit at the Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot,
Israel. “VAoEH is a content-rich resource that brings together leading
minds in reproductive science to inform, educate and inspire. We extend
our thanks to all the authors who have contributed to date and we look
forward to building VAoEH into a vital community for professionals
interested in and dedicated to advancing the field of egg health for
years to come,” added Professor Milton Leong, co-founder of
IVF-Worldwide and Medical Director of Hong Kong IVF Center.

Initial content on VAoEH will highlight the role and function of
mitochondria in fertilized oocytes and embryo development and include
basic science articles, clinical experience reports, videos, an image
library and an open discussion forum that will promote dialogue about
the latest developments related to proposed treatments. To start, VAoEH
includes two chapters authored by experts in the field of reproductive
health, including Robert F. Casper, M.D., Justin C. St. John, Ph.D and
Dr. Te-Sha Tsai. In addition, visitors will be able to interact directly
with the VAoEH Advisory Board to help guide future content. VAoEH will
be expanded regularly with significant and timely IVF-related egg-health
themes of interest to reproductive health professionals.

“In recent years, the role of mitochondria has gained renewed attention
due to the fact that autologous mitochondria can be extracted and
injected into oocytes to increase their health and viability; it’s a
critical new field of study that has driven innovations in fertility
treatment,” said Dr. Justin C. St. John of the Centre for Genetic
Diseases, Hudson Institute of Medical Research, and Department of
Molecular and Translational Science, Monash University, Clayton,
Australia. “I’m very pleased to work with IVF-Worldwide to bring this
important topic to light on VAoEH and look forward to collaborating with
peers from around the world to bring renewed hope to women and couples
struggling with infertility.”
