Prominent Colorado Entrepreneur and Advocate Launches Moms Fight Back

Nonprofit organization strives to build a statewide coalition of moms
to tackle challenging issues facing children

DENVER–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today, Heidi
Ganahl
, founder of Camp Bow Wow, publically launched Moms
Fight Back
(MFB), a nonprofit organization created to build a
community of Colorado moms that advocate for safer, healthier families
and communities. The organization addresses today’s most pressing issues
such as school safety, teen sex abuse and assault, foster care reform,
child abuse and neglect, youth marijuana use and bullying prevention.
MFB provides tools, educational resources and support groups to address
these critical issues in the context of how they impact a child’s life
at home and at school, as well as in the legislative and judicial
systems.

“I created MFB because my daughter faced an unthinkable tragedy in high
school, and all I wanted to do was help her put the pieces back
together,” said Ganahl. “Having built a successful company, I knew how
to deal with adversity but when it came to advocating for my daughter, I
found it extremely challenging to get the help and support that our
family so desperately needed.”

MFB brings moms together to facilitate productive, effective discussions
regarding the critical issues that children face today, and the action
needed to make significant changes in our communities. Below are a few
examples of MFB initiatives that support these goals:

  • The Colorado Moms Tour: MFB is hosting a statewide listening
tour, similar to a town hall, that will begin in March 2016 in Colo.
Springs and travel across the front range to 25 communities including
Longmont, Pueblo, Denver, Arapahoe, Adams, Douglas and Larimer,
bringing together industry experts and moms to discuss the critical
challenges, concerns and issues facing families today.
  • Momma Bear Clubs: immediately following each listening tour,
MFB will offer a community-based, anti-bullying program for kids and
assertiveness training for moms in an effort to empower them to handle
difficult issues or situations with confidence.
  • Legislative Engagement: MFB will create taskforces that conduct
ongoing outreach to state legislators by supporting or drafting bills
that protect children and their families.
  • The Moms Fight Back Seal Of Approval: MFB is developing a pilot
program with Colorado schools assessing school safety, as well as
creating a District Attorney Teen Sex Assault Report Card that looks
at District Attorneys’ handling of teen sex abuse and assault
prosecution. MFB is also developing a Family Court Rating System that
will allow judges, special advocates, attorneys and social workers
that work in the family court system to be rated by those involved in
a case. In all three of these categories, those receiving exemplary
status will receive the MFB Seal of Approval.
  • #FightBackin5: a quick and easy tool that shares valuable
information via text about community actions you can take that make a
difference in just 5 minutes a day.

“We are committed to maintaining a constant pulse on the most important
issues facing families today,” said Ganahl. “One of the ways we will do
this is to collect 100,000 personal stories from Colorado moms who have
faced adversity in their homes and communities. Our goal is to gather
these stories by 2018 via our website, social media platforms and
community events so we can create a coalition of moms who support and
advocate together to make positive changes for the betterment of all our
kids.”
