Ridge Medical Center, in partnership with Invuity, is hosting the
first ever Hidden
Scar™ Breast Cancer Surgery mobile training lab in Colorado on
Friday, July 22. A breast cancer diagnosis can threaten not only a
woman’s life, but her self-confidence. With the surgical techniques of
hidden scar surgery, surgeons can effectively treat cancer while
preserving the natural shape of the breast, leaving no visible reminder
“Hidden scar surgery is the best technique we can offer women right now.
I can treat breast cancer, while knowing that I’m not damaging my
patient’s body. This minimally invasive treatment helps to increase
safety, precision and efficiency,” says Dr. Joyce Moore, a breast
surgeon with the Breast Center at Sky Ridge Medical Center. “This is one
more tool in our comprehensive, accredited breast program at Sky Ridge.”
Breast Cancer is the second most common cancer among American women, and
70% of women who are newly diagnosed are unaware of all the surgical
options available, including minimally invasive approaches that can help
restore their self-image and allow them to begin the emotional healing
process. Sky Ridge Medical Center wants to educate women on their
options as well as spread the word within the medical community about
the hidden scar technique.
What is Hidden Scar™ Breast Cancer Surgery?
Hidden Scar™ Breast Cancer Surgery is an advanced surgical approach
where cancerous tissue is removed through a single incision made in an
inconspicuous area, resulting in less visible scarring. Dr. Moore and
her team are the only surgeons currently trained in this technique.
What are the benefits of Hidden Scar™ Breast Cancer Surgery?
Surgeons can perform breast cancer procedures with better safety,
efficiency, and precision – while optimizing clinical and aesthetic
outcomes for patients. This advanced surgical approach leaves no visible
reminder behind, which can have a positive impact on the patient’s
psychological and emotional recovery.
In which breast cancer surgeries can the Hidden Scar approach be used?
Hidden Scar™ Breast Cancer Surgery can be used in:
Nipple sparing mastectomies, which remove all of the underlying
breast tissue while keeping the breast skin and nipple area intact.
Lumpectomies (breast conserving surgery), in which the tumor
and a small area of surrounding healthy breast tissue are removed
while saving the majority of the breast.
Who is a candidate for Hidden Scar™ Breast Cancer Surgery?
Qualification depends on a patient’s tumor size and location, breast
shape and size, and the surgeon’s training. Hidden Scar™ Breast Cancer
Surgery may be appropriate for a wide range of breast cancer patients
undergoing nipple sparing mastectomy or lumpectomy (breast conserving
Dr. Joyce Moore and her team are the only practice in Colorado
performing these techniques, and at the Invuity event on Friday, July
22, her team, along with Invuity experts, will be teaching physicians
across the state how to perform Hidden Scar™ Breast Cancer Surgery.
