Time Warner Cable Deportes Announces New Original Content and On-Air Talent Dedicated to Historic Spanish-Language Lakers Programming

Time Warner Cable Deportes today presented the new, original content that will enhance its comprehensive and historic Spanish-language coverage of the Los Angeles Lakers. The announcement comes as the network unveiled the new members of its on-air team and prepares to celebrate its first year on air as the local home of the Lakers.

Heading up the networks newest team are the Olympic gold medalist and former NBA player, Juan Ignacio “Pepe” Sanchez and Mario Solis, the award-winning KNBC-TV sports anchor whose experience in mainstream and Spanish-language sports media, make him a uniquely gifted journalist in the industry. Both are joined by Beto Duran of ESPN LA 710 radio.

Juan Ignacio “Pepe” Sánchez will be the in-house Lakers expert as well as lead all courtside coverage for the network with real-time commentary, analysis and interviews. Sanchez joins the team as a decorated basketball player having set multiple NCAA records for Temple University where he was named one of the best players in the country and voted All-America third team by the Associated Press. In 2004, Sanchez made Olympic history winning the gold medal with Argentina in Athens and during his time with the NBA, he played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons. Sanchez has served as a columnist for ESPN.com and a contributing writer for the sports news outlet, “Ole” in Argentina. Sanchez has also worked as analyst for ESPN Latin America and as host of “Basquet Timeout” on DIRECTV.

Mario Solis will take Lakers coverage on the network to the next level as special correspondent. Currently the weekend sports anchor for KNBC-TV, Solis will contribute to live-game Lakers coverage on Time Warner Cable Deportes with original features that will allow the team and its Latino fan base to connect in new unique ways. Solis’ illustrious career in Los Angeles sports broadcasting spans more than twenty years. Solis began his career at Univision before moving to Telemundo Channel 52 where he created the blockbuster weekly sports wrap-up show, “Marcador Final.” Ever versatile, Solis is currently the host of HBO Latino’s prestigious boxing series and Fox Sports Net’s “Golden Boy Live”.

Beto Duran is a long-time Lakers insider for ESPN LA 710 radio

and will contribute to live-game coverage of the Lakers on the network. Duran has followed the team closely for more than a decade and will also continue to bring his expertise to in-studio coverage of the Lakers on Time Warner Cable Deportes’ sister-network, Time Warner Cable SportsNet.

All Lakers games home and away on the network will be called live by the Lakers versatile play-by-play announcer, Adrián García Márquez and lead team analyst, Francisco Pinto. Recently and after only their first year on the air, the NBA recognized the gifted García Márquez and Pinto by honoring them with the “Best Live Call” award for the 2012-2013 season. Veteran sports host, Ricardo Celis returns to lead all in-studio commentary for Lakers games and will be supported by the regular network contributors, Nataly Valenzuela and Francisco X. Rivera.

Time Warner Cable Deportes’ new original content was designed to enhance its first year coverage of the Lakers on the network and includes a fan-focused series that will give viewers the opportunity to see themselves during live game telecasts.

Lakers Confidencial returns to the network as the marquee “behind the scenes series” with unmatched depth and access of the team. This season, Time Warner Cable Deportes will present episodes completely in Spanish bringing the teams Latino audience, culturally relevant stories like never before.

will give

passionate, long-time Lakers fans from the community a space of their own. The fan-inspired stories will air during live game telecasts giving them the opportunity to show their love for the team all season long and like never before.

Historias Detras de la Canasta will be part of the network’s expanded Historias Detras… original sports interview series. Historias Detras De la Canasta will be presented by the networks lead Lakers talent and feature star players, high-profile personalities connected to the sport and exclusive sit-downs with Hispanic players from the NBA.

Returning to the lineup of coverage will be, Lakers En Vivo the live, one-hour pre-game show that will cover every angle of Lakers matches leading into tipoff and, Somos Lakers, the complete post-game wrap-up show that will include interviews, game analysis and real-time social media segments driven by fans. Both shows

will air for all Lakers games on Time Warner Cable Deportes including national broadcasts.
