Twin Cities Business Names Medtronic Chairman and CEO Omar Ishrak 2015 Person of the Year

Award recognizes outstanding leadership in strengthening Minnesota’s
economy and culture

MINNEAPOLIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Minnesota’s largest business publication announced today that it has
chosen Medtronic Chairman and CEO Omar Ishrak as 2015’s Person of the
Year.

“For this award, we considered several individuals’ achievements during
the past year. Ishrak stood out for exceptional leadership that is
strengthening our state’s economy, reputation and culture,” says Twin
Cities Business
Editor in Chief Dale Kurschner. “Perhaps the most
significant reason for his selection has to do with how well he led
Medtronic’s $49.9 billion acquisition of Covidien – the largest merger
in Minnesota’s history, and the largest in the nation’s medical device
industry.”

Due out on newsstands next week, Twin Cities Business’s December
issue profiles
Ishrak and his achievements thus far
, which include:

  • Re-energizing Medtronic’s growth engine and improving its financial
    performance;
  • The decisive and quick manner in which he led the Covidien acquisition
    and merger process;
  • His commitment to add 1,000 jobs in Minnesota over the next four
years, bringing its total headcount here to about 10,000; and
  • Leadership through controversies and challenges, including criticism
regarding the tax inversion that became part of the Covidien
    acquisition.

The December issue of Twin Cities Business also includes 100
People to Know in 2016—those who have considerable influence and are
using it well – or hope to use it well. The TCB 100 includes titans,
behind-the-scenes leaders, up-and-comers and hopefuls.

A 2015 Person of the Year reception for Ishrak and 2016’s People to Know
will take place at Windows on Minnesota in Minneapolis the evening of
Dec. 16. For more information, visit tcbmag.com/POY15.

This is the third year Twin Cities Business has named a Person of
the Year. The distinction went to Mayo
Clinic President and CEO Dr. John Noseworthy
in 2014, and Duluth
Mayor Don Ness
in 2013.
