USG Corporation’s Claire Yu Named STEP Ahead Award Honoree by The Manufacturing Institute

Industry Award Recognizes Women for Excellence and Leadership in
Manufacturing

CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–USG Corporation (NYSE: USG), a world leader in building materials and
technologies, today announced that Claire Yu, Research and Development
Program Manager at USG’s Corporate Innovation Center in Libertyville,
IL, has been named by The Manufacturing Institute as an honoree of its
fourth annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Production (STEP)
Ahead Awards. The award recognizes 130 women across organizational
levels who have achieved manufacturing excellence in Science,
Technology, Engineering and Production.

“We are excited that Claire has earned recognition by The Manufacturing
Institute for the positive impact she has made on our company and the
industry as a whole,” said Dom Dannessa, Executive Vice President, Chief
Operations and Innovation Officer at USG. “As a company that values
people with diverse experiences, such as Claire, we are committed to
attracting, advancing and retaining strong female talent, and increasing
the number of women in manufacturing.”

Since joining USG more than a decade ago, Yu has played a key role in
developing new products and technologies that have enabled innovation in
building design and construction. She is an inventor on six U.S. patents
earned while at USG, which adds to the company’s roster of nearly 2,000
U.S. and international patents. In addition, Yu is an active member of
USG’s WomenRock! Employee Resource Group, which empowers women as they
move forward in their careers. Outside of USG, Yu is a member of the
American Chemical Society and has participated in the United Way Speaker
Initiative, where she works to inspire young women to pursue STEM and
manufacturing careers.

“I’m grateful to be recognized by an organization that encourages women
to pursue careers in manufacturing,” said Yu. “The STEP Ahead
initiative’s focus on mentoring the next generation of women to become
manufacturing leaders is something I value on a professional and
personal level.”

The Manufacturing Institute developed the STEP Ahead initiative to
address the industry shortage of available, qualified workers –
especially women. The STEP Ahead Awards empower recipients to
lead as role models in their companies, communities and networks. Peers
and company officials nominate honorees, who are then evaluated based on
their manufacturing achievements, demonstrated through outcomes
including increased revenues, reduced costs, greater productivity,
improved customer satisfaction and development of employee talent.

On April 21, The Manufacturing Institute will recognize all recipients
of the STEP Ahead Awards at a reception in Washington, D.C. The STEP
Ahead Awards program will highlight each Honoree’s story, including
their leadership and accomplishments in manufacturing.
