It’s been two decades since the beloved and talented Selena Quintanilla passed away. Having to live without a wonderful role model has not been easy for Selena fans. Her legacy, however, is more alive than ever and will be honored at a festival in her hometown. Since 1995, the year that we lost the Mexican-American superstar, fans and family members have dedicated their lives to keeping her trajectory in the spotlight. SEE ALSO: How one man became a true Selena fan after her death Everything from dressing up as her for Halloween, singing her songs on TV talent shows and still playing her chart-topping tunes on the radio, Quintanilla is far from forgotten. Now, almost 20-years since her tragic death on March 31st, the Quintanilla family and Texas’ city Corpus Christi are commemorating their lovely star with a two-day music and film festival called “Fiesta de la Flor” (Festival of the Flower). The festival’s name pays homage to Selena’s hit single “Como la Flor,” and is expected to take place near her birthday the weekend of April 17th and 18th. The Latina starlet was born on April 16, 1971. Though the tribute festival is three months away, local news in Texas have reported that the Corpus Christi City Council gave approval for the Convention and Visitors Bureau to use “Bayfront Park” for a festival to honor Selena Quintanilla-Perez. “We are working with them [the Quintanilla family] to make sure the park and adjacent areas are ready to go for a great festival in April that will celebrate music and film and will be great,” said Interim Parks & Recreation Director Stacie Talbert to Southern Texas’ Kiii TV. The city expects about 50,000 visitors to bring in about $1 million to the local economy. The Quintanilla family confirmed this announcement Wednesday. Friday, April 17 Steven James & The Jaded Las Fenix Grammy winner Los Lobos An outdoor screening of “Selena” also will be shown as part of Alamo Drafthouse’s annual Rolling Roadshow of movie screenings, reports Caller Times. Saturday, April 18 Selena’s husband and Grammy winner Chris Perez Selena’s brother’s band Latin Grammy winners A.B. & Los Kumbia Kings Grammy and Latin Grammy Award-winning Los Palominos Grammy winner Little Joe y La Familia Clarissa Serna Nina Diaz Stefanie Montiel Jay Perez Band. Admission: $5 a day for adults; $2 for children ages 5-12 and free for children younger than 2. SEE ALSO: Icon Week: 12 Reasons Selena Quintanilla is irreplaceable The GRAMMY-winning artists’ sky-rocketing trajectory –both in the Spanish-language and English-language markets– was cut short in 1995 after she was killed by her fan club’s president.

The post A two-day festival will honor Selena Quintanilla’s legacy appeared first on Voxxi.

Disappointed with the 2015 Coachella lineup? If so, put your sorrows aside and start packing and get ready for Bonnaroo 2015, to take place in the middle of summer from June 11th to 14th. At Bonnaroo, the show goes on almost all night and you can also enjoy good food and the feeling of being in a farm —or close to it, but surrounded by music, attractions and fun. The 2015 Bonnaroo Lineup Headliners at the festival include singer and pianist Billy Joel, British quartet Mumford & Sons, Canada’s Deadmau5 and California-based 27-year old rapper Kendrick Lamar. SEE ALSO: Coachella 2015 will be all the rage –do you have your tix? Not only do the headlining acts give us a better feel of what to expect at the festival, but so does the list of other great performers invading the concert, such as Robert Plant, My Morning Jacket, Alabama Shakes, Florence + The Machine, Tycho, Tears for Fears, Flying Lotus and more. Bonnaroo takes place in the outskirts of Manchester, Tenn., on a 700-acre location. There are several ways to reach the facilities from close cities as well as possibilities for camping, including RVs. Activities during the festival include a parade, food trucks, cinema and much more. Children are welcome and tickets can be purchased by payments —sort of lay-away system. On the festival’s website there is plenty of information about the facilities and accommodations. Tickets go on sale starting Saturday, January 17 at noon. For the complete list of artists, click here. Latino artists There are two Latino artists invited to perform at Bonnaroo this year: Chilean hip hop singer and composer Ana Tijoux and Detroit’s Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas. Ana Tijoux Ana Tijoux is already a well established artist and she became a constant presence around the U.S. She jumped to fame with the song “1977” —the year she was born in France of Chilean political refuges parents. Tijoux’s lyrics most of the time make social references while her music blends traditional hip hop with strings and some local Latin tunes. Tijoux also cooperates with other artists, producing a beautiful mix of tunes and languages, like with Shadia Mansour, Jorge Drexler and Julieta Venegas. Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas is a Detroit-based band with a rich blend of rock with blues tones and, yes, some Latin touches. Jessica is the daughter of a Mexican mother and a Cuban father who studied fashion design and music. No wonder she goes both, designs her own clothes and creates her own music. This will be the band’s second appearance in Bonnaroo, the first time was in 2012. SEE ALSO: Which Latino acts will invade Coachella Festival 2015? Must-Watch Artists at Bonnaroo From pop to punk rock, attendees can listen, dance and enjoy an incredible diversity of music. Here is VOXXI’s top five pick of artists that you can’t miss if going this year to Bonnaroo. Alabama Shakes Courtney Barnett Brandi Carlile Flying Lotus Iceage It’s off to a great year of music and arts festival with the announcements of Coachella and Bonnaroo. The next big music festivals for 2015 are Lollapalooza (Chicago, July 31-August 2, 2015) and Outside Lands (San Francisco, August 7-9.) Neither one released their lineup list yet and expectations are high.

The post Bonnaroo Festival 2015: Let the music begin! appeared first on Voxxi.

With a massive lineup and tickets on sale Wednesday, the countdown to the 2015 Coachella Festival has begun. Those who are faithful attendees of the event must be some happy campers. We’re pretty thrilled too, especially with some promising acts representing Latinos. SEE ALSO: Coachella 2015 will be all the rage –do you have your tix? Coachella news flooded the web this week when the list of performers was announced, becoming a hot trend on social media. Headlining acts this year include classic rock band AC/DC, eclectic rocker Jack White and reputed rapper Drake. A three-day, two-weekend event in Indio, California during Spring, what more can you ask for? Oh, we know….sazon and pachanga! Here are four Latino acts who have their spot reserved at this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. We bet you don’t want to miss them! Chicano Batman Los Angeles-based band, Chicano Batman, is composed of four talented Latinos who describe their genre as soul, psych and tropical. Some of their influences come from artists such as Caetano Veloso, James Brown and Los Angeles Negros…trippy! Performance at Coachella: Sunday, April 12 FKA Twigs The odd yet unique FKA Twigs is ready to strut her captivating sound at Coachella. She’s responsible for stealing Robert Pattinson’s heart, which not many people are too happy about. As a result of battling online bullying, she shared a photo of herself with the caption “arrow jamaica latina bambina,” which demonstrates her pride of being a mixed race. Performance at Coachella: Saturday, April 11 Los Rakas One Panamanian urban duo is about to “rock & roll” at Coachella –that’s exactly how they expressed their joy on social media. Los Rakas has been turning heads with its unique mélange – hip-hop, plena, soul, reggae and dancehall – of music that bounces between Spanish and English lyricism. SEE ALSO: Hip-hop duo Los Rakas proud of their Latino roots Performance at Coachella: Friday, April 10 Nortec Collective They’ve been there before and they’re thrilled to be returning to the Coachella stage 14 years later. Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich+Fussible will make the audience dance to their dynamic “electronic music from Tijuana.” The Mexican DJs are making their Coachella comeback with tons of new music.

The world eagerly awaits the 2015 Coachella Festival –the only place that will unite some of the greatest musical acts known to man kind. Though the popular concert event is three months away, it quickly became a trending topic on Twitter Tuesday, as the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will open their ticket sales on January 7th. SEE ALSO: The Latin buzz at 2014 Coachella Festival The California-based arts and music festival that inaugurated in 1999 has been all the rage for mostly young adults in the past 15 years. Something tells us that this year’s event will be just as successful, with headlining acts such as AC/DC, Drake and Jack White. Twitter has been on fire since the ticket sales and bands have been announced Tuesday. i must go. i need to go. it is mandatory that i attend coachella — mandëe (@mandyyfaith) January 6, 2015 I gotta attend coachella before I die. — Hanna (@naviishiit) January 6, 2015 @kaskade On our way to #Coachella pic.twitter.com/h4d68yjFnI — Forever 21 (@Forever21) January 6, 2015 All my boos are at Coachella.
