Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez has recently shun the opportunity to make a move to the MLS, as he would rather stay in Spain and enjoy his one-year loan at Real Madrid. Chicharito has spent the best part of his professional career in Europe, and although his first two seasons in Manchester seemed like he had the potential to retain a starting spot in one of the leading clubs in Europe, the last few years have lacked the consolidation prowess that was required from him, and thus his arrival to Madrid this summer was nothing short of a surprise for everybody in the football world. With the loan experiment having clearly not worked, Chicharito has many options open to make his next move in June, and although he doesn’t seem open to joining an MLS team, here are five solid reasons why the Mexican should reconsider: First mover advantage: MLS has slowly but surely been getting rid of its reputation for being an elephant’s cemetery, where old European glories come to find a golden retirement. However, the signings of players like Kaká, Gerrard or Lampard are not really helping that rhetoric. SEE ALSO: Will Ronaldo catch up to Lionel Messi? In the last few weeks, there has been talks of the MLS targeting younger talent, perhaps tier two European talent, but players who have potential and can help bring a competitive edge to the league. Bringing players like Sebastian Giovinco, or Chicharito, will only further develop the competition, since these are players who have made it in Europe, get International playing time with their National Teams, and are still in their prime, which means they can further develop their careers in the US rather than look for a way to put an end to them with a golden paycheck. The Mexican edge: There’s no doubt Mexican fans make up the vast majority — and the rowdiest– of the MLS fan base, and that’s why some of the Mexican stars that have played in the MLS have become some of the most revered idols the league has known. But Chicharito could come as one of the few Mexican players to arrive to the US in his prime, and as such, he could truly become the emblem of the league. Seeing as MLS treated Beckham, their investment in Chicharito’s figure could be phenomenal for both player and league. Revamping his career: At this point, Chicharito Hernandez needs playing time. He has spent the last four years of his career coming in and out of lineups, without solidly establishing himself as a starter, and that needs to come to an end. If the striker wants to prevail as a true International star, he needs more minutes, and in the MLS he can find top quality playing time. Rumor has it he turned down offers from Chicago Fire and LA Galaxy, but the possibility of joining Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane in Los Angeles should definitely be reconsidered by the Mexican. El Tri would love to have him close by: Miguel Herrera was very skeptical about Miguel Layun’s departure to England. Not only is he joining a First Division club, but he is not really assured playing time like he had in America. This is a big issue for the national team coach, who wants his players to compete –of course– but would rather have them in top notch fitness level with lots of playing time than sitting on the bench in their clubs. Herrera would welcome the idea of having Chicharito suiting up for LA, as he knows he would be progressing in his career, and it would also push some of the younger Mexican talent to want to join the MLS. Nothing but good news for el Tri. SEE ALSO: Ronaldo to announce ownership, and a big surprise There’s always a way back: Ultimately, the best part about a decision to join a MLS team is the fact that Chicharito can always return to Europe if he wanted to. He is young enough to try out the American experience and, if not happy, to find a mid-tier club in England, Spain or France that would be willing to pay him to make the trip back to the Old Continent. If he tries to do it the other way around, joining a team like Valencia, Tottenham or Liverpool next year, and it doesn’t work out, there’s no saying if the MLS would want to bring him, as his commercial success would at that point not be assured anymore.

The post Five reasons why Chicharito should move to the MLS appeared first on Voxxi.

If 2014 has taught something to the soccer fanatic is that talent is on the eye of the beholder. During the 2014 World Cup, many of the stand-out players were not those who were supposed to shine brighter than the rest, but rather the ones who tried harder, never gave up and helped their teams come atop their rivals. Because of that, these five soccer players –while not the most glamorous– should stay on your radar because they will likely steal many headlines: Memo Ochoa A great World Cup, six months wasted in Malaga, and it seems like a prosperous move to the EPL to close the year. A very exciting 2014 for the Mexican goalkeeper that should yield an even better 2015, as he could be suiting up for Liverpool starting this January. SEE ALSO: The top five moments in soccer of 2014 While the Reds have lost some of their luster from last year, they are still a force to reckon with, and they should find some stability with Memo on goal. Definitely worth checking out what Ochoa will do playing for a European giant — finally. Fernando Torres “The Kid” has made his comeback– to Atletico Madrid. After a failed stint at AC Milan, Torres is now back in Madrid and the Colchoneros see in him the second coming of the big star who left in 2007 promising to be back some day. He has now fulfilled this promise, and is hoping to get back to his best shape with the Red and Whites, or at least to his goal scoring self version from before the World Cup. Many see in his return a potentially failed attempt to regain some of the lost glory for the player, but at 30 years of age, Torres could still have a lot to say in the Spanish League. Enzo Perez One of the best players in the Argentina squad in the last World Cup has reached the big leagues in Europe. After a few seasons at a great level in Portugal, Valencia will shell out 25 million for Perez, and will hope he can finally make their midfield as solid as can be. SEE ALSO: The biggest letdowns in soccer of 2014 The Argentine is a very talented player that has been screaming for an opportunity to show his talents at a bigger scale, and he will now be able to prove what he is made of. With just a little bit of luck, his connection with Andre Gomes in the middle could do wonders for Valencia, while Negredo, Rodrigo and Alcacer should manage to the rest up front. Juan Cuadrado The Cafetero sensation of the last World Cup stuck to his guns and remained in the glorious city of Florence after the summer. Barcelona and Manchester United tried their best to sign the attacking midfielder, but Cuadrado wanted to spend at least another season with the Violas. In 2015, however, this will change –for sure– and since Barcelona cannot sign any players until January 2016, his next port will most likely be Manchester. With Van Gaal deploying his world-renown 2-3-2-3, Cuadrado can become the true right back/winger who can own up the entire sector, and become a double edge sword for United: defending like the best and attacking with the skills of the best wingers. If Luke Shaw can recover his best form on the left, Van Gaal could count on two of the best specialists on playing next to the sideline in the world, and United would be that much more dangerous. Alexis Sanchez At Arsenal, Alexis Sanchez is already revered as nothing short of a God. His arrival from Barcelona has been a breath of fresh air, and as the rest of the pieces in Arsene Wenger’s puzzle finally start to fit, the Chilean could be once again one of the best players in the world in 2015. SEE ALSO: 2014: A year to remember for Real Madrid Alexis left Barcelona feeling like his talents had been sacrificed for the benefit of Messi and Neymar, but at Arsenal, he is the star and in the new year, his performances could take Arsenal back to the top, and himself into the race for the Ballon d’Or.

The post Five soccer players to keep an eye on in 2015 appeared first on Voxxi.
