Sofia Vergara alongside John Favreau and John Leguizamo will be starring in a new indie film “Chef.”

Protagonist John Favreau, who also wrote and directed the film, is taking a break from big blockbuster hits to bring us this smaller production about a chef working at a popular Los Angeles restaurant who, after hitting creative rock bottom, ends up quitting his job to start up a food truck.

His chef friend Martin, played by Leguizamo, and his son Percy travel from Miami all through Southern USA ending up back in LA. Vergara plays the role of Favreau’s ex-wife and mother of his son.

In an interview with The Source, Favreau says how easy his decision to cast Vergara was.

“Sofia was somebody who I didn’t know personally, but as I wrote the role it was very clear that I don’t know who else it could have been. She was definitely my first choice. And I met with her — she was the first person I met with — and she was down for it.”

The Modern Family star was also thrilled to be working with Favreau. In an interview with Movies Coming Soon she only had positive things to say about the actor/director.

“I knew it was John Favreau who was doing it so that’s what attracted me. I wanted to work with him for a long time, I think he’s fantastic and then I got excited that he was writing, directing and acting on it,” said Vergara.

“He’s so into it, it’s his baby and it’s very nice to be directed by somebody who is an actor. For me, I’m not very experienced with acting, and it’s great when a director tells you exactly what they want from you,” Vergara added.

Sofia Vergara’s character, Inez, is to the point and straight forward. She’s not trying to mislead anyone and is only trying to save her son from any worries or hardships he might encounter. Just as it seems in Vergara’s real-life with son Manolo, she’ll do anything for her child.

“Chef” hits theaters May 9, 2014.
