The photos could be easily deemed something worthy of a spread on “National Geographic” magazine, but when you read a bit closer about who took the photos, you realize the award-winning photographer is only nine-years-old.

This is the case of Carlos Perez Naval, a boy from Spain who won London’s National History Museum annual Wildlife Photographer of the Year award. The category that includes photographers up to 17 years of age was dominated by Carlos, who among his amazing portfolio includes an incredibly vivid photo of a scorpion up close and a a black bear.

Titled “Stinger in the Sun,” the photo of the scorpion is what garnered Carlos Perez Naval the grand prize.

According to boredpanda.com: “Carlos’s parents are tireless travelers, and they always take their son to all the their trips around the world. When he was 4, he started talking photos of all the nature he saw – first with a compact camera and now with professional equipment. He gets a bigger lens every time he goes abroad.”

“This year we have enjoyed a lot traveling through California and the South of Arizona, visiting national parks looking for large and small animals,” his blog explains regarding his travels in 2013.

This little traveler has already seen parts of Asia, several parts of Europe; several parts of the US, including Miami, California and Arizona; as well as several parts of the Iberian peninsula.

But even when he’s not vacationing, little Carlos spends plenty of time photographing the sites and sounds of his native Teruel, in Eastern Spain.

Among his most daring exploits, Carlos photographed a young black bear foraging for food in California’s Sequoia National Park, something we don’t recommend you do at home. Leave it to the pros like Carlos–and those who have good parental supervision, we hope.
