Mónica García at LAUSD
Monica García cares deeply about student learning
Monica Garcia’s presence as the president of the Board of the Los Angeles Unified School District is critical in order to continue on the current path to improve the public schools. That is why she should to be re-elected in LAUSD District 2.
Garcia has shown strong leadership and a commitment in seeking alternatives and providing parents with options in the face of low academic performance in the schools. Among the alternatives was her support for the “Parent Trigger” law, which permits parents to seek a change in school administration under certain condition. She supports the use of student performance in the evaluation of teachers as well as the establishment of charter schools. In terms of the latter, we’d suggest a more objective perspective on charter, that being if a charter school isn’t any better than a public one, there is not reason for its existence.
Her reformist approach at the LAUSD Board has made opposition from the teachers’ union (UTLA) all the more strident. In this race, the union is backing three candidates in the hopes of dividing the vote to ensure that Garcia does not get more than 50% of the vote in the March primary.
Monica Garica is an ally of School Superintendent John Daisy and a supporter of the changes underway. She is deeply committed to the interests of the parent and to their academic achievement of their children. Vote for Monica Garica in LAUD’s District 2
