Forty-eight-year-old actress Salma Hayek is getting older and loving every minute of it. The Mexican beauty has joined the growing list of celebrity women who are not afraid to embrace what it means to age beautifully, and she believes that confidence is why she’s able to land major roles despite her age.

“I never exercised my whole life, but now I do yoga,” Hayek told Net-a-Porter’s The Edit. “I was always borderline chubby, because I like my food and, frankly, I like my wine. I have to say, I’m pushing 50 but I feel great. I looked worse in my youth! I’m in good shape right now.”

Hayek is notorious for hating exercise, but she has always been a big advocate of healthy eating and natural beauty products.

Her health habits are what most experts attribute her youthful appearance to, and Hayek explained in previous interviews she does make sure to take care of her skin and recommends massage and dry brushing prior to hopping in the shower.

Salma Hayek is 48 years old and she is looking finer and sexier than most 20-year old super models.

Salma’s routine is minimal, and she credits her grandmother for her health skin habits.

“Many nights, after being super tired and I just wanted to go to sleep, I would hear her [grandmother’s] voice, crawl to the sink and clean it (makeup) all off,” she told New Beauty magazine last year.

She has no plans to change up that routine, and she has no plans to change herself to fit into traditional beauty roles.

“For those who have never seen me in person, I’m quite short. I have an overly … wavy body. I’m not like the girl next door who is easy to cast. I don’t fit into any of the stereotypes of a woman that should continue to work. I don’t know what it is, but I don’t think it has anything to do with planning. It has something to do with karma, maybe. I believe in karma.”

Part of her acceptance of the aging process had to do with loving her body, no matter how much she weighed.

Hayek gained 50 pounds while pregnant with her daughter, and while that weight gain taught her that she was beautiful regardless, it also was a reminder to her to start focusing more on her health and fitness as she got older.

“I gained so much weight, I got an opportunity to see myself completely disfigured in many different ways — for a very good reason — and I don’t regret it for a second,” Hayek told Glam Belleza Latina. “That’s when I started appreciating my body. The things that I used to criticize, they were not that bad after all.”

Yoga and Pilates are now Salma’s go-to workouts and she is happy with how her body has maintained on the programs. Though she tries to get to the gym every week, she still says she hates to exercise.

“I’m not a skinny girl. I push it,” said Hayek. “I’m at the limit of chubbiness at all times, but I’m happy at all times. Everybody has a weakness (and) mine is food. You have to weigh yourself every day, and you have to have an alarm number. When you get to that number, you have to start putting it in reverse.”
