AfterDark Technologies Launches Nighttime Flag Football Kit on Boston Common

Catch the Night on the Common to showcase wearable technology with
fiber optic and interactive LED sports kit

, a sports-technology company dedicated to changing how
and when sports are played, will showcase its nighttime flag football
kit at ‘Catch
the Night on the Common
,’ on Boston Common from 6.00 p.m. Friday,
October 9, 2015.

Bostonians, visitors, flag football fans, technology enthusiasts,
parents and children are invited to join the AfterDark Technologies team
on Boston Common to see a nighttime flag football game, try out the kit
and take part in competitions.

“As a flag football player, it’s frustrating to run out of daylight or
to incur the expense and hassle of finding a lighted field,” said Dan
, founder of AfterDark Technologies. “We’re addressing that
need but adding an edge to a game that is played by an estimated 20
million people but hasn’t changed in a century – one of our testers
described it as ‘playing in the world of Tron.’ We wanted to launch
somewhere meaningful; Boston Common is a landmark, valued space for
recreational sports and the oldest park in the country. It’s a special
place in Boston and we’d like to thank the permits team at Boston Parks
Dept. for their help in setting this up.”

Incorporating side-firing fiber optics and interactive LEDs, AfterDark’s
flag football kit includes lighted
jerseys and flags
; cones to mark the playing field and end zones; an
interactive visual rush countdown on the quarterback’s jersey
; and a
brightly-lit football. It has been designed for — and tested by — adults
and children aged six and up. Testers included leagues across the U.S.
such as Social Boston Sports, Texas Sports and Social Club, Santa Monica
Beach Flag Football; intramural teams including Babson College and
Assumption College, and New
England Flag Football
. AfterDark’s flag football kit has also been
tested with UK flag football leagues in partnership with Pulling
the Flag
