Backers
submit 103,922 City of Los Angeles voter signatures in support of the
Neighborhood Integrity Initiative for the March 2017 Citywide ballot—far
more than the 61,486 valid signatures needed to qualify.

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Coalition
to Preserve L.A.
and backers of the Neighborhood
Integrity Initiative
, today turned in 103,922 voter
signatures in support of a ballot measure to curb abusive land use
practices and developer favoritism by the City of Los Angeles Planning
Department and City Hall by forcing the City and developers to follow
existing zoning regulations for the next two years. Backers need 61,486
valid City of Los Angeles voter signatures in order to qualify the
measure for the March 2017 citywide ballot, but are submitting over
100,000 signatures—40,000+ signatures more than needed—as a precaution.

The Coalition and a group of supporters held a press conference early
this morning to announce its filing of the signatures this morning at
the site of the proposed Cumulus Skyscraper project at 3321 S. La
Cienega Blvd at Jefferson Boulevard in Los Angeles. The project will
include a 30 story building surrounded by a compound of several 10 story
buildings in an already heavily trafficked and congested neighborhood.

Coalition leaders and supporters recently met with Mayor Eric Garcetti
to provide him an opportunity to announce his own long-promised reforms
of the broken system of planning and development. The city’s Wild West
approach to development has created a massive luxury housing glut,
displaced more than 60,000 people and wiped out 22,000 affordable
housing units since 2000.

The citizen initiative heading for the March ballot brings long-needed
reform to a rigged system in which developers lavish elected City Hall
officials with money, and are then allowed to decide the future and the
character of local neighborhoods.
