GoodBelly Reveals the Scoop on America’s Poop

Leading Probiotic Drink Manufacturer Uncovers Common, Humorous and
Explosive Bathroom Habits via Nationwide Survey

BOULDER, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–No buts about it, everybody poops. In fact, the average person poops
once per day, yet the topic of bowel movements and what people do while
“doing the doo” remains widely undiscussed. That’s why GoodBelly,
maker of probiotic drinks, shots and supplements formulated for daily
digestive health,* decided to do America a solid and get the scoop on
poop.

GoodBelly surveyed more than 3,600 American adults about their bathroom
habits, revealing that mornings are the most popular time to poop, men
spend more time on the toilet than women, and 43 percent of adults have
pooped their pants at least once. Additional findings include:

  • 96 percent of people get the scoop on their own poop, looking at it
    before flushing.
  • 50 percent spend just 1-3 minutes pooping per sitting.
  • 58 percent of couples have an open dialogue about pooping, and 22
percent have an open door policy.
  • 20 percent often poop at work (because who doesn’t love getting paid
    to poop?).
  • 53 percent avoid using public restrooms whenever possible (because,
    yuck!).
  • 67 percent use mobile devices while on the toilet.
  • 37 percent text or email when using the restroom.
  • 28 percent of people poop multiple times each day, but nearly 10
percent are surprisingly only going three times or less per week.
  • Young adults ages 18-24 spend more time on the toilet than any other
adult age group, and people ages 65 and over are the quickest.

“We can all find humor in poop as one of the more unglamorous aspects of
daily life,” said Alan Murray, CEO of GoodBelly. “But pooping is also an
important indicator of a person’s health. That’s why we set out to get
the scoop on America’s bathroom habits – to help draw attention to the
importance of digestive health and offer a solution to help make ‘the
go’ a more positive experience.”

Probiotics, commonly referred to as “good bacteria,” dwell in the
digestive tract and are attributed to helping the body absorb nutrients,
balance pH levels and suppress the growth of harmful bacteria that can
cause infection and disease. GoodBelly drinks, shots and supplements
offer a delicious and convenient way to consume all these digestive
helpers the body needs to help keep the digestive tract on track with
billions of live and active probiotic cultures per serving. All
GoodBelly products are made with the well-researched and highly
efficacious probiotic strain Lactobacillus plantarum 299v (LP299V®),
which can withstand the stomach’s acidic environment, allowing it to
reach the digestive system and positively support digestive health when
consumed daily.*

GoodBelly’s current line-up includes Juice Drinks, Shots and newly
introduced 15.2 oz. bottles in a wide variety of juicy flavors,
including Blueberry Acai, Mango, Pomegranate Blackberry and Protein
