Governor Kasich Proclaims Jan. 22-28 “School Choice Week”; Joins Leaders Nationwide in Celebrating Opportunity in Education

Ohio students, communities to hold nearly 1,000 events as part of
nation’s largest-ever celebration of school choice

COLUMBUS, Ohio–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Governor John Kasich and Lt. Governor Mary Taylor have proclaimed Jan.
22-28 as School Choice Week throughout Ohio. They join more than twenty
other governors and hundreds of city and county leaders in issuing more
than 600 School Choice Week proclamations.

With more than 21,000 independently planned events nationwide, including
972 in Ohio, National School Choice Week 2017 will be the largest-ever
celebration of opportunity in education. Events include rallies,
roundtable discussions, coffeehouse meet-ups, festivals, school fairs,
and more.

National School Choice Week is a nonpartisan, nonpolitical effort
seeking to raise awareness about the school choice options parents have,
or want to have, for their children.

According to the proclamation text, Ohio is home to a wide variety of
school choice options, including public school open enrollment, a
Cleveland voucher program, a voucher program for children with autism, a
charter and community school sector, and a scholarship program for
children with special needs.

“We are thrilled that Gov. Kasich and Lt. Gov. Taylor have issued this
proclamation,” said Andrew Campanella, president of National School
Choice Week. “Ohioans are fortunate to have many educational options in
their state, and we encourage parents to talk about the schools they’ve
chosen and what types of schools they would like available for their
children.”

Held every January, National School Choice Week is an independent public
awareness effort designed to shine a positive spotlight on effective
education options for every child. Through thousands of independently
planned events across the country, National School Choice Week raises
public awareness of all types of educational choices available to
children. These options include traditional public schools, public
charter schools, public magnet schools, online learning, private
schools, and homeschooling.
