Minnesota Virtual Academy Students Prepare for 2016-2017 School Year

Students return to statewide online public school September
6 –

HOUSTON, Minn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Minnesota
Virtual Academy
(MNVA), an accredited, full-time online public
school that serves students in grades K through 12, will begin the
2016-2017 school year on September 6. MNVA educates students through an
engaging online curriculum that is supplemented with hands-on materials
and the instruction of state-certified teachers. MNVA is open to K-12
students who are official residents of the state of Minnesota.

Enrollments are still being accepted for this school year. As part of
the Minnesota public school system, MNVA is tuition-free to all
residents of Minnesota. Families who are interested in the program are
invited to attend an online information session or in-person
meet-and-greet event to learn more from teachers, students and parents.
Details can be found on the school website here.

“My daughter has always been self-driven and MNVA helps her exercise her
natural ambition,” said Colene McClard, whose daughter, Mary Knack, will
be entering 11th grade in the fall. “She enjoys managing her
own school schedule and completing her assignments early in the day. The
flexibility of the program has also allowed her to pursue
entrepreneurship, and her online horse tack business is thriving.”

MNVA provides a rigorous, engaging curriculum, including courses in
language arts/English, math, science, history, world languages, art and
music, as well as high school electives and Advanced Placement® courses.
High school students are bolstered by a strong support system that
includes a homeroom teacher who remains consistent from year to year,
grade level advisors and counselors.

“We’re excited to celebrate the school year ahead and look forward to
welcoming our MNVA students and families back,” said Krin Abraham,
Superintendent at Minnesota Virtual Academy. “Our individualized
approach to education along with the hard work and dedication of our
teachers ensures every student the best opportunity to meet and exceed
their academic goals.”

For the 2016-2017 school year, MNVA will build upon its Advanced
Learners program, which was expanded to include students in grades K-8
this year. This enrichment program, available to students who meet the
qualifications, is designed to address the abilities and interests of
those who may exceed their grade level in one or more subjects.

Earlier this summer MNVA challenged enrolled families to prevent summer
‘brain drain’ by offering students free access to LearnBop,
a self-paced solution that simulates a one-on-one, personalized math
tutoring experience. The award-winning online program will continue to
be available free of charge throughout the fall and can be used
alongside the regular math curriculum to build math skills or prepare
for high-level exams.
