Northwest Federal’s Nonprofit Partnership Program Accounts for Over One-Third of New Membership in 2015

“Community Partners Program” connects credit union with local
nonprofits, builds relationships in communities

HERNDON, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Northwest
Federal’s
innovative Community
Partners Program
closed out 2015 with nine new partnerships ranging
from nonprofits supporting the animal rescue to a trail conservation
club. The program, unique to credit unions, invests in communities by
allowing new members at Northwest to support local nonprofit
initiatives. Community Partners are able to use program funds to further
their charitable activities ranging from scholarships to hands-on work.
The organizations may also apply for grants from Northwest Federal and
their members may join the credit union.

“It’s about Northwest Federal, a not-for-profit credit union, helping
nonprofits that share our commitment to enriching the community,” said
Northwest Federal’s President/CEO, Chris McDonald. “We’re proud of our
efforts to find organizations that matter to members, where they live,
whether that’s here in northern Virginia, or areas like central Florida
where fourteen percent of our members reside.”

Support for the partnerships comes in a variety of ways including event
sponsorships, like this past year’s Spring ArtFest with the League of
Reston Artists, held at Northwest Federal’s corporate headquarters. The
event highlighted the reciprocal nature of the partnership—local artists
gained greater exposure in the community, and Northwest members had the
opportunity to learn more about the local art community while conducting
branch business. Partner organizations find the relationship with
Northwest allows them to develop their programs and increase awareness.

Northwest Federal remains committed to the program in the future, with
events and sponsorships to come, including another ArtFest scheduled for
fall 2016. Organizations interested in becoming Community Partners are encouraged
to apply
