SCAN Health Plan Announces Enhanced Prescription Drug Benefit for 2016

LONG BEACH, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–SCAN Health Plan announced today its 2016 benefit plans, which feature
all of the basic benefits traditionally covered under Medicare as well
as a prescription drug benefit (Medicare Part D), with no deductibles
and low copays for most services. Other benefits include vision, routine
transportation and hearing aids. Specific benefits may vary depending on
plan selection and county.

Beginning January 1, SCAN’s Classic Medicare Advantage plan (HMO) will
feature a significant savings opportunity on prescription drugs. While
copayments vary by county, all SCAN Classic members will be able to get
a three-month supply (90 days) of Tier 1 and Tier 2 drugs at either a
retail pharmacy or SCAN Mail Order Pharmacy and only pay for two months.

“Many seniors take several medications to help them manage chronic,
long-term conditions and we don’t want the cost of these drugs to be a
barrier to good health,” said Cathy Batteer, senior vice president and
general manager at SCAN. “Our new benefit for 2016 makes substantial
savings available to our Medicare Advantage members at both retail and
mail order pharmacies.”

In 2016 the SCAN Classic plan will continue to be available to
Medicare-eligible beneficiaries in 12 California counties: Los Angeles,
Marin, Napa, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San
Francisco, San Joaquin, Santa Clara, Sonoma and Ventura.

In addition, in many of these counties SCAN also offers SCAN
Connections, a special needs plan (SNP) expressly designed for
individuals who are dually eligible for both Medicare and Medi-Cal. In
some counties SCAN offers SNPs that are available to eligible
individuals with chronic conditions. SCAN Heart First (HMO SNP) is for
people with cardiovascular disease or congestive heart failure, and SCAN
Balance (HMO SNP) is for individuals with diabetes. Both offer similar
benefits as the SCAN Classic plan as well as additional benefits
specific to managing heart disease or diabetes.

“We understand that the annual enrollment period can be a confusing time
for Medicare beneficiaries given all of the choices and changes that can
take place from year to year,” added Batteer. “SCAN is committed to
providing stable, dependable benefits plans – and keeping copayments as
low as possible – so our members can better budget for their healthcare
costs.”

The annual enrollment period for selecting a Medicare Advantage plan for
2016 runs from October 15 to December 7, 2015. During this time seniors
and others on Medicare may choose to switch their health plan or move
from traditional Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan (or move back to
Original Medicare) with their new elections taking effect January 1,
2016.

As governed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, member
benefits vary by county. Specific information on SCAN’s 2016 benefit
