Ingredients:
- 2 corn tortillas, 6-8″ diameter
- Olive oil
- Seasonings
- Dip
Preparation:
1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Lay the two tortillas on a cutting board. Use an oil spritzer or a silicone baking brush to apply a thin layer of olive oil to both sides of each corn tortilla.
3. Now, have fun and sprinkle seasoning on both sides of the tortillas. Here are a few tasty flavor combinations to try on your homemade tortilla chips:
- Sweet: cinnamon and sugar
- Spicy: Cajun seasoning mix
- Traditional: cumin and garlic powder
- Zesty: a squeeze of fresh lime juice and a sprinkle of sea salt
4. Cut each tortilla into six pie-shaped wedges. Lay the chips on a baking sheet. Make sure the chips don’t overlap, or they won’t get crisp.
5. Bake the chips for 8 to 10 minutes, or until they are lightly golden brown and crisp. Remove the chips from the baking sheet and let them cool on a wire rack for 3 to 5 minutes.
6. Place the chips on a plate and enjoy!
Here are four dips to try with your homemade chips:
- Guacamole: mashed avocado seasoned with lime juice, cilantro, minced tomato, and garlic
- Salsa fresca: several types of tomatoes, bell peppers, red onions, and jalapeño peppers diced small and tossed together
- Creamy dip: fresh sour cream mixed with chopped cilantro
- Sweet dip: creamy dulce de leche topped with curls of milk chocolate
Note: When making a large batch of homemade chips, store the leftovers in a sealed container or bag. These will stay fresh for one week but will likely be gobbled down soon sooner than that. Enjoy!
