Eva Longoria to star in new comedy, ‘Telenovela’

Eva Longoria, former “Desperate Housewives” star, will be cast in NBC’s new soapy comedy, “Telenovela.” The network announced on Friday that it has ordered 13 episodes of a single-camera comedy where the 39-year-old actress will play the “willful but popular diva Ana Maria, star of Latin America’s most beloved telenovela, who strives to stay on top in a world where the drama on-camera is nothing compared to the drama off-camera,” according to NBC News. Her character will be able to effectively navigate the crazy lifestyle that comes along with putting together a daily show. Not only will Longoria have her plate full with acting in the show but she will also be a producer on the project. At the TV critics press tour, NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt also touted “Shades of Blue,” a “dark cop show” starring Jennifer Lopez that will start production in June. Additionally, former “X-Files” star David Duchovny will play “an old-school” cop in “Aquarius,” a drama set in the 1960s when Duchovny’s character runs up against the notorious criminal Charles Manson. The network is also developing “Freedom Run,” an eight-hour miniseries about the Underground Railroad, originally based on Betty DeRamus’ book, “Forbidden Fruit: Love Stories From the Underground Railroad.” What is interesting to note is that Stevie Wonder is one of the project’s producers.
