In 2014, the Puerto Rican salsa singer traveled to the Dominican Republic to inaugurate his first orphanage in the island. He provided necessities and shelter to nearly 150 abused or abandoned children at The Children of the Christ residence in La Romana.

It was the first of many orphanages, he stated, and without a doubt has kept true to his word.

Now, the multiple Latin GRAMMY winner is set to open his second orphanage on April in Barranquilla, Colombia.

With double the capacity of the Dominican Republic facility, the resident in Colombia expects to serve over 200 children. The city of Barranquilla has already donated the land for the building.

“The Foundation is taking off at warp speed,” Sylvia Zaldívar, Executive Director of Maestro Cares told Fox News Latino. “Marc Anthony has been leveraging his relationships to develop projects that are making a real difference in communities in need.”

The foundation’s goal is to the help children in Latin America who live in disadvantaged communities. The non-profit organization provides housing, health, educational, and recreational centers.

The charitable Maestro Cares foundation was founded in 2012 by Marc Anthony and Henry Cardenas, President and CEO of Cardenas Marketing Network. Both Anthony and Cardenas are already working on ambitious plans to open similar centers in Mexico, Peru, and Puerto Rico.
