After already making the rounds in Mexico and countries in Latin America, the Gloria Trevi movie is making a pit stop at this year’s SXSW Festival.

This can officially be considered as the U.S. premiere of “Gloria,” a bold and compelling musical drama told through the lens of the provocative, socio-politically charged music that made Trevi famous.

Mexico’s most controversial pop-rock icon from the ’80s and ’90s is expected to participate in an in-depth onstage interview on Tuesday, March 17 and attend the red carpet ahead of the screening.

Gloria Trevi. Biopic. Pelo Suelto. SXSW. It sounds cool and all, but we’re looking forward to catching this flick in theaters nearby.

Those who lived through her–literally–hair raising scandals, musical breakthroughs and successes, as well as her comeback can back us up.

“Gloria” traces back to the beginning of Trevi’s trajectory in the eighties and nineties and her controversial and toxic bond with her manager and then husband Sergio Andrade, telling the true story of their destructive relationship and Andrade’s abusive sexual behavior and all its consequences.

It also chronicles Trevi’s astounding fall from grace in 2000 when she was accused of running a sex cult and thrown in jail to her triumphant acquittal and release in 2004.

The biopic was directed by first-timer Christian Keller, who chased down the Trevi’s life rights and has been developing her story since 2005.

Actress Sofia Espinosa takes the role of the controversial Gloria Trevi; whereas, Marco Perez delivers the powerful role of Sergio Andrade.
