Is it just me or are celebrities starting to use their superpowers for good? Famous singers or actors from Shakira to Eva Longoria to Ricky Martin are putting their fame and fortune to good use to give back to the world. In Martin’s case, he fights for oppressed children all around the world.

Martin had his humble beginnings in a Puerto Rican kid group known as Menudo. Thirty years later, the Grammy-winning singer is determined to put every tool at his disposal to eliminate the inhumane and downright immoral phenomenon that is the trafficking of children.

The 43-year-old singer never stops. Even though he just released a new album, A Quien Quiera Escuchar, Martin insists that talking about children forced into prostitution and pornography in front of crowds is far more fulfilling because he is playing his role in eliminating the illegal practice.

“Not only in Puerto Rico, all over the world, here in the United States, huge numbers, when it comes to kids that are becoming slaves,” Martin told Reuters in an interview this week.

Last year, Martin opened a center in Puerto Rico to combat oppression against children. But his philanthropist endeavors do not end there. His other big cause, he said, is the “fight of my community, the LGBT community, it’s something that I won’t get tired of.”

Martin is the father of twin boys born via surrogate, which is why he was particularly offended by a recent comment by Dolce, who described children born to gay couples through fertility treatment as “synthetic”.
