Alejandro Iñarritu’s ‘Birdman’ gets SAG Award for Best Cast

The cast of “Birdman” gave thanks Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu’s genius for creating the film that won them the Best Cast in a Motion Picture award at the 21st Screen Actors Guild Awards Sunday night. Iñarritu, of Mexican descent, directed “Birdman” also know by its other title, “The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance.” It’s a story of an actor (Keaton), who is known for playing the role of an iconic superhero and the challenges he faces while trying to mount a Broadway show — one of the biggest challenges in this black comedy is his ego. “Alejandro, you’re a genius,” said Amy Ryan as she took to the microphone on stage. Keaton also had words of praise for Alejandro Iñarritu upon accepting the award: “This is for Alejandro, and the producers and all of you…. “Actors love this movie for showing the courage actors have to kind of go out there and lay it on the line.” It was clear they were happy to receive the award, but were it not Iñarritu’s vision, the project wouldn’t have been such a success. You see, unlike the Oscars, you won’t be seeing a category such as best film at the SAG Awards. Instead,  the focus is on the actors, and that’s where the stars of comedy “Orange is the New Black,” were able to shine, lending more Latino star power to the show in the realm of TV programs.
