Babalu Restaurant & Lounge

Everyone looks for a good happy hour spot after work and Thursday’s seem to be the perfect day to get a drink and dance. It’s only one day closer to Friday, so why not live a little?

Babalu Restaurant and Lounge is the ideal spot where you can party and hang out after work on “Latin Tinge Thursday’s”. Delicious food, unique drinks, and a walk through the Caribbean — you can’t beat that! This restaurant and lounge located in The Bronx has an outdoor seating area where you can wine and dine during this warm weather.

Once you’re seated you’re served chips with three signature dips: Charred Tomato Salsa a spicy tomato sauce, “Ajillo,” a garlic and cilantro sauce (my favorite), and “Piquillo Mojo,” roasted red peppers with tomatoes and white wine vinaigrette sauce.

Babalu has an island décor, from its tables to the Viejo San Juan style wall throughout the restaurant.

What really caught my eye about Babalu was the “I Love Lucy” reruns on the plasma televisions. The classic ’50s sitcom was being played throughout the night which gave a unique touch to the place.

As for the drinks, Babalu has its own Latin twist to the ever-popular sangria. “Babalu Banana,” is the Piña Colada of all Sangrias and only $6.

For dinner, I devoured a traditional Puerto Rican plate called the “Piñones Platter” which assembles bacalaitos, alcapurrias, sorullos, y empanadillas, all for $20.

Come back next week and check out my next hot spot! Follow me on Twitter @Mabel_Martinez1 to see where I’m at for the night and tell me your favorite nightlife spots.
